Let's Buy Happiness were a British alternative rock music group. The group consisted of Sarah Hall (vocals), James Hall (guitar/keys), Graeme Martin (guitars), Mark Brown (bass) and James King (drums). They began playing local shows in hometown Newcastle, England. Their first EP No Hot Ashes was self-released and received national success. Following this came singles Six Wolves, Fast Fast and Dirty Lakes. The band have twice been invited to the Maida Vale Studios for both BBC Radio 6 Music [1] and BBC Radio 1. [2] Dirty Lakes has also been included on Spotify's Songs of 2011 list. [3] Their tour manager was Alex King who is the brother of former drummer, James King - their father is Hairy Biker Simon King. [4]

Within a year of playing their debut show in a small Newcastle pub, the band played at the Glastonbury Festival 2010 on the John Peel stage alongside Foals, Florence and the Machine, The xx and Mumford and Sons. [5]

Touring

As well as supporting Primal Scream at Electric Brixton for a one-off show, [6] Let's Buy Happiness toured the UK twice in 2011 with the indie-pop band Frankie and The Heartstrings [7] and We Were Promised Jetpacks. [8] The band has also supported Idlewild, The Temper Trap, Vivian Girls, Health, Sky Larkin and The Futureheads. [9]

2012

In 2012 the band returned to the studio to produce new material themselves quoting "With this new EP in the New Year, everyone’s going to see what we’re about. It’s a fresh start." [10]

2014

Let's Buy Happiness announced their split in April 2014, playing a final show at The Cluny on 18 July.

Robert Gillespie is a Scottish musician, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He is best known as the lead singer, founding member, and primary lyricist of the alternative rock band Primal Scream. He was also the drummer for The Jesus and Mary Chain in the mid-1980s.

Maida Vale is a residential district consisting of the northern part of Paddington in West London, west of St John's Wood and south of Kilburn. It is also the name of its main road, on the continuous Edgware Road. Maida Vale is part of the City of Westminster, 3.1 miles north-west of Charing Cross. The area has many large late Victorian and Edwardian blocks of mansion flats. It covers the BBC Maida Vale Studios.

Screamadelica is the third studio album by Scottish rock band Primal Scream. It was first released on 23 September 1991 in the United Kingdom by Creation Records and on 8 October 1991 in the United States by Sire Records. The album marked a significant departure from the band's early indie rock sound, drawing inspiration from the blossoming house music scene and associated drugs such as LSD and MDMA. Much of the album's production was handled by acid house DJ Andrew Weatherall and engineer Hugo Nicolson, who remixed original recordings made by the band into dance-oriented tracks.

Bloc Party English indie rock band

Bloc Party are an English rock band, composed of Kele Okereke, Russell Lissack, Justin Harris and Louise Bartle. Former members Matt Tong and Gordon Moakes left the band in 2013 and 2015 respectively. Their brand of music, whilst rooted in rock, retains elements of other genres such as electronica and house music. The band was formed at the 1999 Reading Festival by Okereke and Lissack. They went through a variety of names before settling on Bloc Party in 2003. Moakes joined the band after answering an advert in NME magazine, while Tong was picked via an audition. Bloc Party got their break by giving BBC Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq and Franz Ferdinand's lead singer, Alex Kapranos, a copy of their demo "She's Hearing Voices".

Warren Ellis (musician) Australian musician and composer

Warren Ellis is an Australian musician and composer. He is a member of several groups: Dirty Three, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and Grinderman. He has also composed film scores with Nick Cave. Ellis plays the violin, piano, accordion, bouzouki, guitar, flute, mandolin, tenor guitar, and viola. He has been a member of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds since 1994.

Written and produced by vocalist and guitarist Jack White, "Dead Leaves" was released as the third single from the album in August 2002, charting at number 19 on the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and number 25 on the UK Singles Chart.

They have presented a range of television shows that combine cooking with the travelogue format, mostly for the BBC but also for the now-defunct Good Food channel. They have also produced a range of cookery books published to accompany their various television series.

Plug Me In is a DVD box set released on 16 October 2007 by Australian hard rock group AC/DC. It includes rare performances of the band. The standard two-disc set contains one disc of performances from the Bon Scott era and one from the Brian Johnson era. The three-disc set includes Between the Cracks, featuring performances from both eras. The performance of "Shoot to Thrill" from the Summit, Houston, TX, October 1983 is on both disc two and three.

Hurts English synthpop duo

Hurts are an English musical duo formed in Manchester in 2009, consisting of singer Theo Hutchcraft and multi-instrumentalist Adam Anderson. They have released five studio albums: Happiness (2010), Exile (2013), Surrender (2015), Desire (2017) and Faith (2020). Their first two albums both reached the top 10 in several countries.

We Beat The System

We Beat The System are a five-piece English, alternative rock band from Sunderland. Formed in 2009, the group consists of Daniel Mason, Jonathan Gray (guitar), Martin Dagg (guitar), Jon Sandwith and David Burlace. The band has been tipped by the BBC as having a "promising future ahead of them" after winning the Best Alternative Act category in the Live and Unsigned 2010 competition at the O2 Arena in London - the United Kingdom's largest national music competition for unsigned bands.

Gabrielle Aplin Musical artist

Gabrielle Ann Aplin is an English singer-songwriter. After amassing a following for her acoustic music covers on YouTube, Aplin signed a recording deal with Parlophone in February 2012. She rose to prominence the following November when she was selected to record the soundtrack for a John Lewis television commercial with a cover of Frankie Goes to Hollywood's "The Power of Love", which went on to top the UK Singles Chart.

Zulu Winter were a five piece indie rock band formed in London in 2011. The band consisted of Will Daunt, Iain Lock, Dom Millard (keyboards), Henry Walton (guitar) and Guy Henderson (drums).

<i>The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show</i>

The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show is a British radio programme, broadcast on BBC Radio 6 Music on Saturdays, between 6 pm and 9 pm, and between 10 pm and 12 midnight on BBC Radio 2. The Radio 6 Music show is presented live by Craig Charles and produced by Simon Hodge, Ben Appleyard and Ellen Orchard for TBI Media. All varieties of funk and soul music are played, from classic tracks to the latest releases. It is the longest-running show on BBC Radio 6 Music, and has had the highest audience share of any programme on the network.

Vienna Ditto are a trip hop band from England who describe their music as 'voodoo sci-fi blues'. Formed in 2008, they have featured on BBC Radio One, Channel 4 and played at Glastonbury in 2009. Many of their songs are given as free use for video projects.
