The Isaaq is a Somali clan. It is one of the major Somali clans in the Horn of Africa, with a large and densely populated traditional territory.

Hawiye Somali clan family

The Hawiye is a large Somali clan family. Members of this clan traditionally inhabit central and southern Somalia, the Somali Region and the North Eastern Province. They are also the majority in the capital city, Mogadishu.

Darod Somali clan family

The Darod is a Somali clan. The forefather of this clan was Sheikh Abdirahman bin Isma'il al-Jabarti, more commonly known as Darood. In Somaliland the clan settle the eastern region of Sool while the clan has a presence in Sanaag and Togdheer regions. In Somalia members of the clan settle in the federal member states of Jubbaland and Puntland while the clan has an ancillary presence in pockets of the states of Koonfur-Galbeed and Galmudug. In Ethiopia the clan settles in the Somali State region, whilst in Kenya they settle in the North Eastern Province.

As descendants of Ismail bin Sheikh Isaaq, its members form a part of the Habar Magaadle confederation, and they constitute the largest sub-clan of the Isaaq. The Garhajis are divided into two major sub-clans: the Habr Yunis and Eidagale. They are traditionally nomadic pastoralists, merchants and skilled poets. One of the earliest mentions of the Garhajis in Western literature was in the Journal of the Royal Geographical Society of London in 1848, where they are described as a powerful and warlike clan with an abundance of livestock reserves.

Ahmed Mooge Liibaan (1943-1997) was a prominent Somali instrumentalist and vocalist. He was the brother of Mohamed Mooge Liibaan, another prominent Somali artist, and is also the father of the current Mayor of Somaliland's capital Hargeisa, Abdikarim Ahmed Mooge.
