Saint Martin is an island in the northeast Caribbean Sea, approximately 300 km (190 mi) east of Puerto Rico. The 87-square-kilometre (34 sq mi) island is divided roughly 60/40 between the French Republic and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, but the two parts are roughly equal in population. The division dates to 1648. The southern Dutch part comprises Sint Maarten and is one of four constituent countries that form the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The northern French part comprises the Collectivity of Saint Martin and is an overseas collectivity of France. Only the French part of the island is part of the European Union.

The team is not a member of the International Cricket Council, but is a member of the Leeward Islands Cricket Association, which itself is a member association of the West Indies Cricket Board, and players from Sint Maarten generally represent the Leeward Islands cricket team at domestic level and the West Indies at international level. Sint Maarten has however played as a separate entity in matches which held Twenty20 status, but has not appeared in first-class or List A cricket. Leona M. Marlin-Romeo is a Sint Maarten politician and the current Prime Minister of Sint Maarten. She was selected as Prime Minister in the coalition agreement between the United People's Party, the Democratic Party and the independent member of Parliament Chanel Brownbill. She previously served as a Member of Parliament from 2014 to 2016.
Miss Sint Maarten is a national beauty pageant that selects queen from Sint Maarten representative to Miss Universe pageant between 1976 and 1982. This pageant is incorporated to Miss St. Martin who selects the winner to Miss France since 2012.
