Libon is a communication and fintech application that enables international calls, and allows users to send mobile credit, data, electricity, or money transfers to relatives abroad. The service is operated by the French company Libon SAS, headquartered in Paris, France.
The service originated as an internal Orange S.A. project launched in 2009 under the name ON Address Book, an Android app combining address book and messaging features. In November 2012, Orange rebranded the product as Libon – a contraction of "Life is Better ON" – and introduced VoIP calling capabilities and a redesigned interface.
Initially, Libon provided free in-app calls, instant messaging, and a smart voicemail service. Over time, the product evolved toward international calling and digital value transfer services (mobile recharges, payments, etc.).
In August 2018, Libon became independent from Orange Vallée, creating the standalone company Libon SAS. The company was backed by investment fund A Plus Finance [1] .
Emergency calls (e.g. 112, 911) are not supported through the app.
Libon defines itself as a "communicating fintech platform", combining communication, payments, and remote family support. The company primarily serves diaspora communities seeking to stay connected and support their relatives abroad, with transparent pricing and user-friendly services.
Libon has been selected for the La French Tech national startup program for **four consecutive years**, up to **2025**, as part of the French Tech 120 initiative highlighting France’s most promising and fast-growing technology companies. [2]
Libon’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy are available on the official website, last updated in March 2025. [3]
