Lierne is a municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is part of the Namdalen region, and it is the largest municipality by area in Trøndelag. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Sandvika. Other villages include Inderdal, Mebygda, and Tunnsjø senter. The municipality borders Sweden to the south and east. Most of Lierne Municipality lies on the Swedish side of the drainage divide between Norway and Sweden.

Blåfjella–Skjækerfjella National Park lies in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is the third largest national park on the Norwegian mainland and one of the largest remaining true wilderness areas. It is located in the municipalities of Verdal, Snåsa, Grong, Lierne, and Steinkjer. The terrain is characterized by mountain plains, lakes, forested valleys, marshes, and a few mountain peaks. The Sami people have lived in and used the area for several centuries. There are many Sami cultural monuments here, such as settlements, gathering places, burial sites, and sacred places.

Limingen (Norwegian) or Lyjmede (Southern Sami) is a lake in Røyrvik Municipality and Lierne Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is the eighth-largest lake in the country. The lake lies 418 m (1,371 ft) above sea level; and has an area of about 93 km2 (36 sq mi). At the deepest point, it is 192 m (630 ft) deep and averages about 87 m (285 ft) deep. The lake has a volume of about 8.1 km3 (1.9 cu mi) and is located just north of the large lake Tunnsjøen. The border with Sweden lies about 725 metres (0.5 mi) east of the lake.

The park covers 333 square kilometres (129 sq mi) of land along the border with Sweden. The park lies east of the populated areas in Lierne Municipality, about 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) southeast of the village of Sandvika and about 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) northeast of the village of Mebygda.
