Light FM are an American indie rock band based in Los Angeles, CA. The band has released four full-length albums and one EP. Their most recent album, [1] Buzz Kill City, was released on October 4, 2011.

History

Former Motorhome guitarist/vocalist Josiah Mazzaschi formed Light FM in 1999 [2] in Chicago, IL with Chris Frantisak, Mark Ruggiero, and Brian Barbier. The band self-released their first album, This is The Beginning of My Golden Age, in 2004 on their own Electronic Battleship Records label with digital distribution by Chicago's Minty Fresh Records. The record was received to rave reviews by the Chicago Reader, Chicago Sun-Times, and the Chicago Tribune. Songs from the album were featured in the CW's [3] Gossip Girl , [4] One Tree Hill, [5] Dawson's Creek , and MTV's The Hills. [6]

Mazzaschi moved to Los Angeles, CA in the summer of 2005 where he formed a new line-up of the band featuring Kim Haden, Harry Trumfio (The Pulsars), and Brian Barbier. They self-released their self-produced Save the Drama EP in the fall of 2007. The band later released their sophomore full length, Black Magic Marker, on San Francisco-based Devil in the Woods Records in October 2008. Songs from the album were used on Fox's Joss Whedon directed Dollhouse and ABC's How I Met Your Mother . [7]

In the summer of 2009 Nicole Fiorentino (Veruca Salt, Spinnerette, Radio Vago) replaced bassist Brian Barbier. The band released the Mazzaschi produced third full-length record, Let There Be Light FM. Songs from the album were featured on MTV's Jersey Shore , [8] the MTV Film and TV Awards, the MTV Music Awards and 2012's film, The Vow [9] starring Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum.

On September 9, 2009, Mazzaschi's former Motorhome bandmate Laura Ann Masura was injured in a motorcycle accident. Mazzaschi organized a benefit concert [10] for her on November 8, 2009, in Los Angeles at the Echoplex where Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins performed under the alias The Backwards Clock Society along with Mark Tulin of The Electric Prunes and Kerry Brown of Chicago group Catherine. Light FM, The Pulsars, Butterfly Child, Kissing Cousins, and The Happy Stars (featuring Brian Young of Fountains of Wayne and Joe Skyward of the Posies) also performed. Corgan also donated two autographed instruments for auction including, Jimmy Chamberlin's drum kit from The Smashing Pumpkins debut record Gish , as well as a bass used at the very first Smashing Pumpkins show. Nicole Fiorentino later joined The Smashing Pumpkins in 2010.

On October 4, 2011, Light FM released their fourth full-length record titled Buzz Kill City and [11] toured theaters across the US opening for The Smashing Pumpkins and The Fancy Space People, featuring Don Bolles from the LA punk band the Germs.

Recording the album proved to be a challenge as the band members struggled with lingering interpersonal problems, musical uncertainty in the wake of three increasingly successful rock albums, and the departure of drummer Jimmy Chamberlin. Frontman Billy Corgan would later characterize Adore as made by "a band falling apart". Corgan was also going through a divorce and the death of his mother while recording the album.

The project initially was conceived as a 44-song concept album loosely inspired by the Tarot, with each song being released individually as a free download. By August 2018, after 34 tracks had been released, Corgan announced via Instagram that the project had been abandoned.

Nicole Margaret Fiorentino is an American bass guitarist. She is best known for her work with alternative rock bands Veruca Salt and The Smashing Pumpkins. In both bands, she played as a touring member before contributing to albums. She replaced Eva Gardner of Veruca Salt before recording 2006's V. For the band's final album Ghost Notes in 2015, Fiorentino was replaced by returning founding member Steve Lack, but reappeared on Louise Post's debut solo album Sleepwalker and corresponding tour in 2023. With the Smashing Pumpkins, Fiorentino, she became an official member in 2010. She performs on the band's third Teargarden by Kaleidyscope EP (2011) and subsequent album Oceania (2012). Fiorentino departed the band in 2014.

Oceania is the eighth studio album by American alternative rock band the Smashing Pumpkins, released on June 19, 2012 through Martha's Music. The album was produced by Billy Corgan and Bjorn Thorsrud, and forms part of the band's 34-track music project Teargarden by Kaleidyscope. It was their first studio album to feature guitarist Jeff Schroeder, and their only album to contain contributions from bassist Nicole Fiorentino and drummer Mike Byrne, who replaced original drummer Jimmy Chamberlin.

"Quasar" is a song by American alternative rock band, The Smashing Pumpkins. It is the opening track of the band's eighth studio album Oceania, released on June 19, 2012. The song was written and produced by the band's frontman Billy Corgan and was co-produced by Bjorn Thorsrud.

Monuments to an Elegy is the ninth studio album by American alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins, released on December 9, 2014 on Martha's Music. Band leader Billy Corgan noted that—like the band's previous release, Oceania—the album is part of the 34-track music project, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope. It turned out to be the last part of the series due to cancellation of the project in 2018. Corgan and guitarist Jeff Schroeder recorded the album as a duo, with Mötley Crüe's Tommy Lee adding drum parts. This was the last album before the return of original guitarist James Iha and drummer Chamberlin in 2018.
