Dr. Lillian Aber is the women's representative for Kitgum District in the eleventh Parliament of Uganda. She represented the National Resistance Movement under re-elected President of Uganda,Yoweri Museveni. In the 2021 general election,Aber won with 41,192 votes against Roselyn Alanyo Olobo of the Uganda People's Congress and Norah Odokorach,an independent candidate. [1]
Aber earned a bachelor's degree in English Language and communication skills from Makerere University. [2] She also earned an Master of Business Administration of Oil and Gas from Uganda Christian University and another master’s degree in public administration and management from Makerere University. Aber also holds an honorary PhD from Zoe Life theoretical college in the United States of America. [3] [ dead link ]
Aber's involvement in politics began at Makerere University. As a freshman,she won the election to become Guild Representative Councillor (GRC) of the School of Arts in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. She was then appointed as a Guild Minister by the Guild President,Anna Ebaju Adeke that year. As a sophomore,she stood for the guild presidency on the Forum For Democratic Change party ticket,but lost to Bwowe Ivan,who later appointed her as Guild Vice President. [4]
While Guild Vice President,she made a bid for the presidency of the Uganda National Students Union (UNSA) [5] which she won in 2015,replacing Matanda Abubaker (the UNSA President from 2013 to 2014). [6] [7] Aber later moved from the Forum For Democratic Change party to the National Resistance Movement party [8] when standing for the position of Chairperson of the National Youth Council. She was elected to this position in November 2015,polling 119 votes ahead of George Abudul who polled 105 votes. [9] [3]
Aber is a senior presidential advisor on youth [10] and a UN youth delegate. [11] [12] Aber also is a former Commonwealth students association representative in charge of partnerships and advocacy. [3] In 2018,Aber joined the Uganda constitutional review team. [10] [13] In 2016 she had unsuccessfully stood for the East African Legislative Assembly(EALA). [14]
In January 2021,Aber won the women's representative seat for Kitgum District. [1] [15] She replaced Margaret Lamwaka Odwar who switched to the Chua East Constituency. [16]
She is also the founder and director of Laber Foundation,a non-governmental charity organisation based in Kitgum.
Eriya Kategaya was a Ugandan lawyer and politician. At the time of his death he was Uganda's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs. He was also an ex officio Member of the Ugandan Parliament,on account of being a cabinet minister.
The Forum for Democratic Change,founded on 16 December 2004,is the main opposition party in Uganda. The FDC was founded as an umbrella body called Reform Agenda,mostly for disenchanted former members and followers of President Yoweri Museveni's National Resistance Movement (NRM). Party president Kizza Besigye,formerly a close ally of Museveni,was a presidential candidate in 2001,2006,2011 and 2016 presidential elections. In November 2012,Mugisha Muntu was elected as President of the FDC until November 2017 when he was defeated by Patrick Oboi Amuriat the current party President until 2022.
Speciosa Naigaga Wandira Kazibwe,is a Ugandan politician and first female vice president in Africa. She was the sixth vice president of Uganda from 1994 to 2003,making her the first woman in Africa to hold the position of vice-president of a sovereign nation. Dr. Speciosa Kazibwe is also a Ugandan surgeon. She is also referred to as "Nnalongo",because of her twins. In August 2013,she was appointed by the United Nations's Secretary General,Ban Ki-Moon as United Nations Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa.
Gregory Mugisha Muntuyera,commonly referred to as Mugisha Muntu,is a Ugandan politician and retired military officer. He is the current President of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT),a political party he founded in March 2019. He previously served as the President of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC),an opposition political party,from 2012 to 2017. In September 2018,General Muntu parted ways with the FDC citing ideological differences with the new FDC leadership of Hon.Patrick Oboi Amuriat. On 27 September 2018 he announced in a televised press conference that he and some other leaders had begun what he called The New Formation which later became the ANT.
Jessica Rose Epel Alupo,commonly known as Jessica Alupo,is the ninth and current vice president of Uganda since 2021. She is a Ugandan politician,educator,and former military officer. She previously served in the cabinet of Uganda as minister of education between 2011 and 2016. She is also an elected member of parliament as Katakwi District's women's representative.
Beatrice Atim Anywar,also Betty Anywar,,is a Ugandan politician who serves as the Member of Parliament representing the Kitgum Municipality Constituency in the 10th Ugandan Parliament. Fred Mukasa Mbidde is a Ugandan lawyer,human-rights activist,mass communication specialist,motivational speaker and politician. He is an elected member of the 3rd East African Legislative Assembly (EALA),representing the Republic of Uganda. He has been in this office since June 2012. He serves on three EALA committees:the Committee on Communication,Trade and Investments;the Committee on Legal,Rules and Privileges;and the Committee on Regional Affairs and Conflict Resolution. He is the chairperson of the Committee on Communication,Trade and Investments.
Beti Olive Namisango Kamya-Turomwe,also known as Betty Kamya and Beti Kamya,is a businesswoman and politician in Uganda,the third-largest economy in the East African Community. She is the Inspector General of Government in Uganda,since 16 July 2021.

She previously served as the parliamentary representative of the National Female Youth Constituency in the 10th parliament (2016–2021). She serves as the Deputy President for Forum for Democratic Change in Eastern Region.
The People Power,Our Power movement is a resistance pressure group in Uganda. It is led by Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu,also known as Bobi Wine,who is the MP for Kyadondo East constituency. The movement seeks to unite Ugandans on issues such as ending human rights abuse,corruption and redefining the rule of law,with a focus on young Ugandans. The movement was primarily sparked by civil unrest with Yoweri Museveni's extended presidency,after he announced plans to extend his third-longest tenure in Africa by seeking re-election in 2021.

From 1986 to 1994,a variety of rebel groups waged a civil war against the Ugandan government of President Yoweri Museveni. Most of the fighting took place in the country's north and east,although the western and central regions were also affected. The most important insurgent factions were the Uganda People's Democratic Army (UPDA),the Uganda People's Army (UPA),Alice Auma's Holy Spirit Movement (HSM),and Joseph Kony's army. Several smaller rebel factions and splinter groups of the larger movements waged their own campaigns;the rebels often clashed with each other. All belligerents,including the government,targeted civilians and committed human rights violations. In course of fighting that involved tens of thousands of troops,the Ugandan government was able to gradually defeat or contain most rebel factions. The operations in the north and east caused great destruction and resulted in high civilian casualties.
