The Big Ten men's basketball tournament is held annually at the end of the men's college basketball regular season. The tournament has been played each year since 1998. The winner of the tournament is designated the Big Ten Tournament Champion, and receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The 1998–1999 Connecticut Huskies men's basketball team represented the University of Connecticut in the 1998–1999 NCAA Division I basketball season. Coached by Jim Calhoun, the Huskies played their home games at the Hartford Civic Center in Hartford, Connecticut, and on campus at the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Connecticut, and were a member of the Big East Conference. They won their fourth Big East tournament. On March 29, 1999, they claimed their first national championship by defeating Duke, 77–74.

Frank Paul Vogel is an American professional basketball coach who is the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He has also been the head coach for the Indiana Pacers and Orlando Magic. Vogel previously served as an assistant coach of the Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics. He coached the Lakers to their 17th championship, and his first, over the Miami Heat in the 2020 NBA Finals.

All-time record holder in league titles is Bakken Bears, which has captured 18 titles in its history. BMS is the only team with 5 titles in a row, starting in 1986 through 1990. The main TV partner of the league is TV2 Sport. The league consists of 10 teams, with no relegation rules.
