Poland does not legally recognize same-sex unions, either in the form of marriage or civil unions. In 2012, the Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples have limited legal rights in regards to the tenancy of a shared household. A few laws also guarantee certain limited rights for unmarried couples, including couples of the same sex. Same-sex spouses also have access to residency rights under EU law.
Senior marshal is an officer in the Sejm or Senate of Poland, presiding over the first sitting of the parliament house, appointed by the President of Poland. It is their role to conduct taking an oath by MPs and carry out election of the permanent leader of the house, who then takes the lead.
Robert Biedroń is a Polish politician, former mayor of Słupsk, and LGBT activist who has been serving as a Member of the European Parliament since 2019. He is the Chair of the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM) in the European Parliament.
The National Movement is a Polish far-right ultranationalist political party. It is led by Krzysztof Bosak. It claims spiritual descendance from the prewar movement of Roman Dmowski, the National Democracy, which was also commonly called the National Movement.
Andrzej Sebastian Duda is a lawyer and politician who has served as President of Poland since 6 August 2015. Before he became President, Andrzej served as a member of the Polish Lower House (Sejm) from 2011 to 2014 and the European Parliament from 2014 to 2015.
Grzegorz Michał Braun is a Polish politician who has served as a member of the Sejm for Rzeszów and as Chairman of the Confederation of the Polish Crown since 2019.
Left Together is a left-wing political party in Poland.
Presidential elections were held in Poland on 28 June 2020. As no candidate received a majority of the vote, a second round was held on 12 July, in which incumbent president Andrzej Duda, running with the support of Law and Justice, faced off against Civic Platform vice-chairman and Mayor of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski. In the second round Duda was re-elected for a second term with 51% of the vote, becoming the first incumbent to win re-election since Aleksander Kwaśniewski in 2000.
Rafał Kazimierz Trzaskowski is a Polish politician and the current city mayor of Warsaw. He is also a political scientist specializing in European studies.
Aleksandra Maria Dulkiewicz is a Polish lawyer and politician serving as the city mayor of Gdańsk since 11 March 2019.
The Confederation Liberty and Independence, frequently shortened to just Confederation, is a far-right political alliance in Poland. It was initially founded in 2018 as a political coalition for the 2019 European Parliament election in Poland, although it was later expanded into a political party in order to circumvent the 8% vote threshold for coalitions to enter the national parliament. It won 11 seats in the Sejm after the 2019 Polish parliamentary election. Its candidate for the 2020 Polish presidential election was Krzysztof Bosak, who placed fourth among eleven candidates.
Przemysław Czarnek is a Polish politician and academic, who was voivode of the Lubelskie Voivodeship from 2015–2019. He was elected in 2019 as a member of the 9th Sejm as a member of Law and Justice. Czarnek is notable for his opposition to LGBT rights, his controversial comments on women's rights, and supporting corporal punishment for children. He filed a criminal case in opposition to the recognition of Ukrainian victims of the Home Army in the 1944 Sahryń massacre.
Krzysztof Kamil Gawkowski is a Polish politician and writer, who has been serving as a Deputy Prime Minister of Poland and Minister of Digital Affairs since December 2023.
Bartosz (Bart)Staszewski (born 23 September 1990 in Malmö, Sweden) is a Polish filmmaker and LGBT activist. He is the creator of the documentary Article Eighteen, co-founder of the Equality March in Lublin association and the Miłość Nie Wyklucza foundation ('Love Does Not Exclude'), which promotes same-sex marriage in Poland. Staszewski was the target of death threats and intimidation in 2019 and 2021 in relation to his activism.
Magdalena Agnieszka Biejat is a Polish politician and translator of Spanish-language literature. She was a member of the Sejm for Warsaw I between 2019 and 2023, when she was elected to Senate for the 45th district. Since 13 November 2023 she is serving as a Deputy Marshal of the Senate. She is one of the co-leaders of Left Together and one of the leaders of The Left coalition.
Piotr Zgorzelski is a Polish politician and teacher, who served as the starosta of Płock County from 2010 to 2011. He was elected to serve as an MP in the Sejm in 2011, re-elected in 2015, 2019, and 2023. He has been serving as a Deputy Marshal of the Sejm since 12 November 2019.
Katarzyna Agata Kotula is a politician, teacher, and social activist. From 2019, she is a member of Sejm of Poland, and from 2023, she holds the office of the Minister of Equality. She is a member of the New Left pollical party, and one of the leaders of the All-Poland Women's Strike movement.
Presidential elections will be held in Poland by 18 May 2025 at the latest, though they can be held earlier should the office become vacated as a result of death, resignation or removal from office of the incumbent. Due to constitutional term limits allowing a president to serve only two terms, incumbent president Andrzej Duda is ineligible for re-election. Presidential elections in Poland must take place on a free day between 75 and 100 days before the term's end.
Riad Haidar was politician, physician, and social activist. From 2019 to 2023 he was a member of the Sejm of Poland, and from 2010 to 2019 he was a member of the Lublin Voivodeship Sejmik. From 1998 to 2019 he was the medical director of the Neonatology Ward of the Voivodeship Specialist Hospital in Biała Podlaska.
