The office of the President of the University of Houston–Clear Lake, held by Ira K. Blake, was created with the establishment of the University of Houston–Clear Lake in 1971 as the chief executive officer of the institution.
The University of Houston–Clear Lake (UHCL) is a four-year state university and one of four distinct institutions in the University of Houston System. Its campus spans 524 acres (2.12 km2) in the cities of Pasadena and Houston, Texas, with a branch campuses in Pearland and Texas Medical Center. Glenn Allan Goerke was an American academic who was President/Chancellor of the University of Houston, the University of Houston–Clear Lake, the University of Houston–Victoria, and Indiana University East. Goerke also served as an interim chancellor of the University of Houston System. He held an undergraduate degree from Eastern Michigan University, and a doctorate from Michigan State University.
William A. Staples served as the fourth president of the University of Houston–Clear Lake. He earned a bachelor's degree from Drake University, a master's degree from the University of Iowa, and a doctorate in business administration from the University of Houston. Prior to becoming president, he served the UHCL's School of Business as coordinator, program director, associate dean, and dean.

He also served as the quorum's acting president from 1994 to 2008, and was an apostle and member of the Quorum of the Twelve from 1970 until his death. He served as a general authority of the church from 1961 until his death.

She is perhaps best known for her work on the 1982 musical-drama television series Fame, where she portrayed dance teacher Lydia Grant, and served as the series' principal choreographer. The Glenanne barracks bombing was a large truck bomb attack carried out by the Provisional IRA against a British Army base at Glenanne, near Mountnorris, County Armagh. The driverless lorry was rolled down a hill at the rear of the barracks and crashed through the perimeter fence. The bombing took place on 31 May 1991 and left three soldiers killed and 14 people wounded, four of them civilians.
Renu Khator is the eighth chancellor of the University of Houston System and the thirteenth president of the University of Houston. She is the first foreign-born president of the university, and the second woman to hold the position. Khator is also the first Indian American to lead a major research university in the United States.
