This article is a list of episodes from Space Symphony Maetel: Galaxy Express 999 Side Story , an anime OVA series created by Leiji Matsumoto. The OVA series was first aired in Japan from 6 August to 29 October 2004 on the Animax PPV Premier channel on the SkyPerfecTV satellite system in Japan. The series was created in order to bridge the gap between Galaxy Express 999 (1974) and Maetel Legend (2000) and was subsequently released on DVD.

The opening theme song was "Everlasting Dream" by Taro Hakase, and the ending theme was "Galaxy Legend" by Takako Uehara.

Yoshinori Kanada was an influential Japanese animator originally from Nara, Japan. He is best known for his popular 1984 work Birth, one of the first original video animations released in the market. Though he did not create many character designs, he was famous for his character animation skills. His work on Galaxy Express 999 (1979) and Harmagedon (1983) were very influential to an entire generation of animators in Japan. These two works also served as partial inspiration for Takashi Murakami's Superflat art movement. During the 1980s and 1990s, he worked closely with director Hayao Miyazaki on several movies from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind to Princess Mononoke. He was also known for breaking down the directorial system in animation, allowing individual key animators to exert their own style into a particular work. He died at the age of 57 of a heart attack on July 21, 2009. His works inspired the art and works of animators such as Hiroyuki Imaishi, Masahito Yamashita, Akira Amemiya and Masami Obari. The final episode of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt was dedicated in memory of him, and his influential work garnered special praise from many industry figures, such as Hayao Miyazaki.

<i>The Galaxy Railways</i> Japanese anime television series

The Galaxy Railways is a Japanese anime television series produced by Leiji Matsumoto, creator of Galaxy Express 999, and is about flying trains set in the far reaches of outer space. It began airing on October 4, 2003. Funimation licensed the anime for release in the United States. It debuted on American TV in a syndicated Funimation Channel programming block airing on CoLours TV on Monday, June 19, 2006. The series has also aired on the linear Funimation Channel. Two sequels have been produced, both currently unlicensed in English regions.

Maetel Legend is a 2000 anime OVA based on characters created by Leiji Matsumoto about how the planet La Maetelle becomes the planet Andromeda, also known as Planet Maetel. It serves a link between Matsumoto's previous series Queen Millennia and Galaxy Express 999. The OVA and series are supposed to follow Queen Millennia chronologically, and are prequels to Galaxy Express 999.
