The 2015 Costa Rican Cup is the 3rd staging of the Costa Rican Cup. The competition began on July 4 and finished on November 19 with the final at the Estadio Nacional. The cup featured 20 teams, composed of all 12 teams of the FPD and 8 from the Liga de Ascenso. Originally, teams from the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Aficionado were expected to participate as well, but were withdrawn due to lack of budget.

The 2015–16 Deportivo Saprissa season was the club's 81st season of existence, and the club's 67th season in the top tier of Costa Rican football. Saprissa played in the Costa Rican Primera División, as well as participated in the 2015 Costa Rican Cup, and the 2015–16 CONCACAF Champions League.

The 2017–18 Liga FPD season, also known as Campeonato Banco Popular for sponsorship reasons, is the 97th since its establishment. The tournament is the first since the 2006–07 season to use the Apertura and Clausura names to their short tournaments, marking a departure from the Invierno and Verano tournaments.

The 2018 Apertura season served as the opening half of the 2017–18 Liga FPD association football season. It began on 29 July 2017 and ended on 23 December 2017.

The 2022 Costa Rican Cup was the 4th staging of the Costa Rican Cup, and the first edition since 2015, following a seven-year hiatus. The tournament was dedicated to Anthony Vargas, goalkeeping coach for Guadalupe who had died from a heart attack during a training session in October 2022, aged 29.
