Touggourt is a city and commune, former sultanate and capital of Touggourt District, in Touggourt Province, Algeria, built next to an oasis in the Sahara. As of the 2008 census, the commune had a population of 39,409 people, up from 32,940 in 1998, and an annual growth rate of 1.8%. Touggourt's urban area includes the communes of Nezla, Tebesbest and Zaouia El Abidia, for a total population of 146,108.
The Grand Erg Oriental is a large erg or "field of sand dunes" in the Sahara Desert. Situated for the most part in Saharan lowlands of northeast Algeria, the Grand Erg Oriental covers an area some 600 km wide by 200 km north to south. Nezla is part of the urban area of Touggourt, and forms much of the southern area of that city. Agriculture is the main industry of the region, along with some tourism. The Sidi Madhi Airport is found in Nezla commune, and serves Touggourt and the surrounding areas.

The Tugurt language is spoken by some residents of Tamacine.
Tebesbest is a town and commune in Touggourt District, Touggourt Province, Algeria, and forms a part of the urban area of Touggourt. According to the 2008 census it has a population of 35,032, up from 29,840 in 1998, and a population growth rate of 1.7%. It is a predominantly agricultural community, with dates being the main product.
Zaouia El Abidia is a town and commune in Touggourt District, Touggourt Province, Algeria. According to the 2008 census it has a population of 19,993, up from 15,381 in 1998, and has an annual population growth rate of 2.7%. It forms the northern part of the urban area of Touggourt.
Tugurt, also known as Oued Righ Berber and Temacine Tamazight, is a Zenati Berber variety spoken in some of the oases of the northeastern Oued Righ region around Touggourt in Algeria. As of 1893, its main speech area was in Temacine, Blidet-Amor, Meggarine and Ghomra. It is closely related to the nearby Tumzabt (Mozabite) and Teggargrent (Ouargli) languages.
Nadi Riadi Baladiate Touggourt, known as NRB Touggourt or simply NRBT for short, is an Algerian football club located in Touggourt, Algeria. The club was founded in 1936 and its colours areblack and white. Their home stadium, Stade El Moustakbel, has a capacity of 10,000 spectators. The club is currently playing in the Ligue Nationale du Football Amateur.

Meggarine Guedima is a neighbourhood in the oasis town of Megarine, in the southeast of Algeria. Administratively, it forms part of the municipality of Meggarine, which in itself is part of the Touggourt Province, Algeria. The village is located 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) east of the provincial capital Touggourt.

Lalla Aicha was regent of Touggourt from 1833–1846. She was from the Ben-Gana family, which was granted the title ‘cheikh el-Arab’ by the French. Some sources claim she married Amer, Sultan of Touggourt (1822–1830), while other state she was the wife of Ibrahim III, Sultan of Touggourt (1830–1831). Lalla Aicha was the mother of Sultan Abd ar-Rahman (1840–52).
