On Listening to Louis Chen's Zither (Traditional Chinese: 聽陳蕾士的琴箏) is a poem by the Hong Kong poet Wong Kwok Pun. In the poem, the poet uses synesthesia to describe his audial experiences. The poem has been included as an essential text in Hong Kong secondary school textbooks since the 1990s. Wong apologised to students in 2006, for many students consider the poem too difficult to be understood for examination in the HKCEE subject of Chinese Language. Since 2007, students no longer need to study the poem for HKCEE.
The Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination was a standardised examination between 1974 and 2011 after most local students' five-year secondary education, conducted by the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA), awarding the Hong Kong Certificate of Education secondary school leaving qualification. The examination has been discontinued in 2012 and its roles are now replaced by the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education as part of educational reforms in Hong Kong.

The Joint University Programmes Admissions System, or commonly known as JUPAS (聯招), is a unified system for applying for full-time undergraduate programmes in Hong Kong. In 2017 admission, all government funded degrees and sub-degrees provided by University Grants Committee (UGC) member institutions, and most of other full-time degrees provided by institutions in Hong Kong are under the application system in JUPAS.
Queen's College, initially named The Government Central School in 1862, later renamed as Victoria College (皇后書院) in 1889, is a selective sixth form college for boys with a secondary school attached. It was the first public secondary school founded in Hong Kong by the British colonial government. Queen's College obtained its present name in 1894 and is now located at Causeway Bay, Hong Kong.
The Early Admissions Scheme, developed by the University Grants Committee of Hong Kong, was a subsystem of the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS). The scheme had been adopted between the academic year of 2002/03 to 2010/11. It enabled students who skipped the HKALE to enter the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong or the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Candidates who received 6 or more "A"s, attained level 4 or above in English Language and Chinese Language, or obtained "C" or above in French or Putonghua in the HKCEE, were eligible to take part in the scheme, which might grant them admission to the aforementioned institutions without requiring them to sit for the HKALE.

Sheng Kung Hui Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School is an Anglican secondary school located at Kwai Shing Circuit, Kwai Chung, the New Territories, Hong Kong. The school is notable for its academic achievements as evident in students' public examination results. In the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination 2007, each student scored 5.1 distinctions and credits on average, which is above average among secondary schools in Hong Kong. In 2008, the school announced its first student getting 10As in the HKCEE since the foundation of school.
Xi Xi is the pseudonym of the Chinese author and poet Zhang Yan. She was born in China and came to Hong Kong at the age of twelve. She was a teacher and now a Hong Kong-based writer. Her works are popular in Taiwan and mainland China. She has become rather well known to secondary school age Hong Kong people these years likewise, though, not owing to her other specific masterpieces but, very likely, "Shops", one of her essays which is adopted as reading materials for the Chinese Language paper of Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination by the Hong Kong Examination Authority. The screenplay for the 2006 film, 2 Become 1 was based on her novel, "Mourn Over the Breasts"(哀悼乳房). The film starred Hong Kong Cantopop singer Miriam Yeung, as a woman living with breast cancer.

Wong was previously convenor and founder of the Hong Kong student activist group Scholarism. Wong first rose to international prominence during the 2014 Hong Kong protests, and his pivotal role in the Umbrella Movement resulted in his inclusion in TIME magazine's Most Influential Teens of 2014 and nomination for its 2014 Person of the Year; he was further called one of the "world's greatest leaders" by Fortune magazine in 2015,, and nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017.
