Luke Clough

Luke James Clough (4 July 1878 – 3 December 1956) was an Australian politician.

He was born at Pinegrove near Echuca to farmer Thomas Clough and Mary Howe. He became a market gardener in Bendigo and then a bootmaker. He was a founding member of the Bendigo East branch of the Labor Party and served as branch president; he was also on the state executive from 1911 to 1914. In 1915 he won a by-election for the Victorian Legislative Assembly seat of Bendigo East, and served as a backbench Labor member until 1927, when his seat was abolished and he was defeated for preselection in the new seat of Bendigo. Clough died in Bendigo in 1956.^[1]

The Victorian Legislative Assembly is the lower house of the bicameral Parliament of Victoria in Australia; the upper house being the Victorian Legislative Council. Both houses sit at Parliament House in Spring Street, Melbourne.

Bendigo East is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria. It covers an area of 2,711 square kilometres (1,047 sq mi) covering the part of the city of Bendigo east of the Yungera railway line and surrounding rural areas to the north, east and south. It includes the Bendigo suburbs of East Bendigo, Epsom, Flora Hill, Kennington, Spring Gully, Strathfieldsaye, Strathdale, Quarry Hill, and White Hills, and the surrounding towns of Axedale, Bridgewater, Huntly, Mandurang, Marong and Raywood. It also includes parts of the localities of Eaglehawk, Elmore, Golden Square and Ravenswood, and the Bendigo campus of La Trobe University. It lies within the Northern Victoria Region of the upper house, the Legislative Council.

The 2010 Victorian state election, held on Saturday, 27 November 2010, was for the 57th Parliament of Victoria. The election was to elect all 88 members of the Legislative Assembly and all 40 members of the Legislative Council. The incumbent centre-left Labor Party government, led by John Brumby, was defeated by the centre-right Liberal/National Coalition opposition, led by Ted Baillieu. The election gave the Coalition a one-seat majority in both houses of parliament.

It is a 1,524 square kilometres (588 sq mi) electorate centred on the city of Bendigo west of the Yungera railway line, and including surrounding rural towns to the west and south-west. It encompasses the localities of Bendigo City, California Gully, Castlemaine, Harcourt, Long Gully, Maldon, Marong, Newstead and West Bendigo. It also includes parts of the Bendigo suburbs of Eaglehawk, Golden Square and Kangaroo Flat. It lies within the Northern Victoria Region of the upper house, the Legislative Council.

Brendan James Jenkins is the former Labor Party member for Morwell in the Victorian Legislative Assembly. Jenkins lost his seat to Nationals candidate Russell Northe after a swing to the Nationals in the 2006 election.

Andrew David Kennedy is a former Australian politician. Born in Ulverstone, Tasmania, he attended University High School in Melbourne and then the University of Melbourne, after which he became a teacher in Victorian state schools. In 1969, he was elected as a Labor member to the Australian House of Representatives in the by-election for the seat of Bendigo following Noel Beaton's resignation. He held the seat until his defeat in 1972. In 1982, he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the member for Bendigo, and in 1985 he transferred to Bendigo West, a position he held until 1992 when the Labor government was defeated.

Donna-Lee Petrovich was an Australian politician. She was a Liberal Party member of the Victorian Legislative Council from 2006 to 2013, representing Northern Victoria Region. She resigned with a year remaining of her second term in order to contest the 2013 federal election in the seat of McEwen, but was defeated by Labor incumbent Rob Mitchell.

Luke Anthony Donnellan is an Australian politician. He has been a Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly since 2002, representing Narre Warren North. He is the Minister for Child Protection and the Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers in the Second Andrews Ministry since December 2018. He also served as the Minister for Roads and Road Safety and Minister for Ports in the First Andrews Ministry from December 2014 to December 2018. He is associated with the Labor Unity faction.

James Arthur Clough was an Australian politician. He was the Liberal member for Parramatta in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1956 to 1959, and for Eastwood from 1965 to 1988.

John William Storrier Radford was an Australian politician.

Leslie William "Bill" Galvin was an Australian politician. He was a Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Bendigo from 1945 to 1955 when he was defeated at the state election, then regained the seat in 1958 until 1964.
