Lungotevere is an alley or boulevard running along the river Tiber within the city of Rome. The building of the Lungoteveres required the demolition of the former edifices along the river banks and the construction of retaining walls called muraglioni.

This lungotevere takes its name from the fountain of the Acqua Acetosa, erected by pope Paul V (r. 1605-21) in 1619.
Pope Paul V, born Camillo Borghese, was pope from 16 May 1605 to his death in 1621. He is best remembered today as the pope who persecuted Galileo Galilei.
It was instituted with law of the city council of 25 February 1948.[2]
