MTV Live HD is an international 24-hour clock HD live music pay television network that is operated by ViacomCBS Networks International's subsidiary ViacomCBS Networks EMEAA. [1] The channel is available in Europe, Latin America, Oceania, Middle East and North Africa and Asia.

Overview

MTV Live HD, the first ever international high definition service dedicated to music, offers a mix of programming from MTV. MTV Live HD is operated by MTVNI's Emerging Markets group, who produce and broadcast the channel from its Warsaw hub. [2] The English-language service also features original and acquired shows, and programming from MTVNI's multi-branded library.

The channel's mix of programming includes shows produced by other international MTV production units in Southern Europe, the UK and Latin America. [2] From the beginning the channels' programming schedules were split into two blocks - MTV HD and Nickelodeon HD, but from October through December 2010 the channel only aired music related programs; it restarted airing Nickelodeon shows at the weekends but earlier in the morning. From July 1, 2011 the channel began to focus primarily on live music programming.

History

The channel was launched on September 15, 2008 in some parts of Europe as MTVNHD (MTV Networks-High Definition) [3] and in Latin America by the end of 2008. [4] The channel continued to launch in new countries throughout 2010, including Australia where it first became available in standard-definition.

On July 1, 2011, MTVNHD was rebranded as MTV Live HD, with a new logo to match the new logos of all other MTV channels revealed on the same date. [5] However, in the UK and Ireland the channel remained as MTVNHD. In Australia MTVN Live was rebranded as MTV Live.

On April 23, 2012, MTVNHD was rebranded as MTV Live HD in the UK and Ireland, along with the launch of a standard-definition MTV Live. [6]

On April 9, 2013, MTV Live HD ceased broadcasting in France after to the launch of the HD's versions of the French MTV channels.

On October 1, 2013, MTV Live HD and MTV Live revamped the channels logo as part of a global rebrand.

On November 3, 2013, MTV Live and MTV Live HD ceased broadcasting on Foxtel's service in Australia. [7]

On March 2, 2014, MTV Live HD launched on Taiwan CHT MOD. On October 24 that same year, it launched on UPC Romania.

On 5 January 2015, MTV Live HD became encrypted and available only on satellite TV provider OSN in the Arab World, replacing MTV Middle East

On 15 February 2016, the standard-definition MTV Live closed and was replaced by MTV Music +1 in the United Kingdom. On 29 June 2016, MTV Live HD stopped airing on Sky in the UK, but continues on Virgin Media.

On 29 March 2017, it was launched in Portugal as an exclusive on Meo.

On 3 August 2018, it was launched in Brazil as an exclusive on NET.

On February 1 2021, the Latin American feed, which had a 7-hour delay, became simulcast.

On May 2021, Selected MTV Live HD programs will be also aired on MTV Asia daily from 12:00 MN to 4:00 PM (SGT).

Network 10 Australian television network

Network 10 is an Australian commercial television network. One of five national free-to-air networks, 10's owned-and-operated stations can be found in the state capital cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth while affiliates extend the network to regional areas of the country. MTV is a 24-hour general entertainment channel specialising in music and youth culture programming which serves Australia and New Zealand. It is operated by parent company ViacomCBS Networks UK & Australia headquartered in London with a local office in Sydney.

Nicktoons is an American pay television channel owned by ViacomCBS Domestic Media Networks. The channel is mainly geared towards children aged 7–14, and broadcasts original animated series from sister network Nickelodeon, known as Nicktoons, along with other original animated series, some feature films, and foreign animated programs from Nickelodeon's international networks 24 hours a day.

VIVA was a German free-to-air music television channel, first broadcast on 1 December 1993. The channel was intended to compete against MTV Europe and was the first German-language music TV channel, while MTV was only broadcast in English until the introduction of MTV Germany in 1997. It was also supposed to focus more on German music and pop culture while MTV only broadcast anglophone music by artists mostly from North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia.

MTV (European TV channel) Pan-European pay TV network

MTV is a pan-global pay television network launched on 1 August 1987. Initially, the channel served all regions within Europe being one of the very few channels that targeted the entire European continent. Today, the channel only serves a selection of European countries as ViacomCBS Networks EMEAA began to regionalise its network in 1997.

ViacomCBS Networks Europe, Middle East, Africa & Asia (EMEAA) is a division of ViacomCBS Networks International. Launched as MTV Networks Europe (MTVNE) in 1987, with two offices in London and Amsterdam. At the moment the unit's main headquarters are in Madrid, with additional offices in Lisbon, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Milan, Dubai, Johannesburg & Lagos, Budapest, Warsaw, Singapore, Moscow, Stockholm, Tokyo, Beijing, Manila, Copenhagen, Prague, Helsinki, Hong Kong SAR.

MTV Germany

MTV Germany is a German language free-to-air television channel operated by ViacomCBS Networks EMEAA. The channel launched on 7 March 1997 as MTV Central, as part of a regionalisation strategy by ViacomCBS, then MTV Networks Europe.

MTV Live (TV network)

MTV Live is an American pay television network owned by ViacomCBS. The channel, which broadcasts exclusively in 1080i high definition, broadcasts music videos and music-related programming from ViacomCBS owned networks MTV, MTV Classic, VH1 and CMT, along with other concert and live music programming from outside producers.

MTV (Russian TV channel) Russian music television network

MTV Russia or MTV HD is a Russian-language free-to-air 24-hour music and general entertainment channel broadcasting in the Russian Federation. Under a licensing agreement from ViacomCBS Networks EMEAA the channel was operated by Prof Media. From June 2013, VIMN Russia announced it would operate the channel after the agreement between both media organizations ceased. VIMN Russia relaunched the channel MTV Russia channel on 1 October 2013 and is also served by mtv.ru.

Nickelodeon is a Latin American pay television channel, counterpart of the American network of the same name. It is owned by ViacomCBS Networks Americas and was launched on 20 December 1996. Aside from airing Nick and Nick Jr. content, it has produced original programming for the channel and has been sold to local distributors worldwide except for Cuba as cable television is banned in that country.

ViacomCBS Networks International (VCNI) is the international division of ViacomCBS. The division oversees the production, broadcasting and promotion of key ViacomCBS' brands outside of the United States. These brands include Paramount Network, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, BET and Colors TV, as well as CBS-branded channels, which are co-owned with AMC Networks International. VCNI also owns a 30% stake in the Rainbow S.p.A. animation studio in Italy, as well as a 49% stake in an Indian joint venture called Viacom18.

MTV (Dutch TV channel)

MTV Nederland and België is a Dutch speaking free-to-air television channel broadcasting in the Netherlands. It launched as MTV NL on 12 September 2000. Before the start of country-specific channels, the Pan-European version of MTV aired in the Netherlands.

MTV Classic (British and Irish TV channel)

MTV Classic is a British pay television music channel from ViacomCBS Networks UK & Australia. The channel was launched in the United Kingdom and Ireland on 1 July 1999 as VH1 Classic. It focuses on music videos and music specials from the 1960s onwards, sometimes featuring music videos and concert footage from as early as at least the 1940s or 1950s, such as Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" from 1942. It has also aired videos from the 2000s and early 2010s. "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles, the first video to air on the original MTV in 1981, was also the first music video to be played when the channel was rebranded as MTV Classic on 1 March 2010. Every November and December on some dates of each year, MTV Classic will play Christmas-themed music branded as MTV Xmas. Since the rebrand, Viacom has rebranded other international channels as MTV Classic. On 1 May 2010, VH1 Australia was rebranded as MTV Classic and on 10 January 2011, MTV Networks Europe launched an Italian version of the same channel, replacing MTV Gold.

MTV (British and Irish TV channel) MTV channel in the UK and Ireland

MTV is a British pay television channel focusing on reality TV and music programming operated by ViacomCBS Networks UK & Australia.

NickMusic is a Dutch pay television music channel for children in the Netherlands, Belgium, and central Europe. The channel is aimed at children from 5 to 15 years old and only plays music. The channel launched as Nick Hits on 2 August 2007 and was rebranded by Nick Music on 1 February 2017. It plays music from popular kid friendly groups both internationally like Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Miranda Cosgrove, Christina Aguilera, Pixie Lott, Robbie Williams, Sugababes and the Jonas Brothers as well as local groups like ZirkusZirkus, Jan Smit, Nick & Simon, Ch!pz, KUS and Frisz.

MTV Music (British and Irish TV channel)

MTV Music is a British pay television channel operated by ViacomCBS Networks UK & Australia. The brand was first launched in the UK and Ireland before launching in Australia, New Zealand, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland. Unlike other MTV Music channels, This channel offers subtitles on selected programmes.

MTV is an Italian pay television network, owned by ViacomCBS Networks EMEAA and operated by Sky Italia.

MTV Base (African TV channel)

MTV Base is a 24-hour music channel from ViacomCBS Networks EMEAA. There are three different feeds of MTV Base Africa, with one catering for the South African audience known as MTV Base South, one for West Africa, and another for rest of Africa, although there have been criticisms the African feed broadcasts Nigerian music only.
