Martin Turner - Ex-Wishbone Ash (previously Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash) is a British rock band formed in 2004 by Martin Turner, original bassist, lead vocalist and one of the songwriters of Wishbone Ash Mark 1 and Mark 2 Line up. Including various reunions, his tenures with the "original" Wishbone Ash band lasted 1969-1980, 1987–1991 and 1995-1996. The band initially saw Turner joined by guitarists Keith Buck and Ray Hatfield, as well as drummer Rob Hewins. The band toured extensively throughout the UK and also in Europe with live performances featuring material from Wishbone Ash's heritage years, mixing live standards with lesser heard songs from the Wishbone Ash back catalogue, as documented on the New Live Dates Vols. 1 and 2 albums, released in 2006 and 2007 respectively. Original Wishbone Ash member Ted Turner guested with the band onstage, as documented on the live albums. In March 2008 Keith Buck left the band and was replaced by Danny Willson (ex-Showaddywaddy). In December of the same year it was announced that drummer Rob Hewins had been replaced by Dave Wagstaffe (ex-John Wetton, Ken Hensley). Hewins went on to join Showaddywaddy late in 2011, making his live debut in January 2012.

In 2008/09 the band embarked on the Argus Tour, featuring performances of the classic album in its entirety. In addition, in October 2008, the band appeared on a month-long theatre tour with Focus and The Groundhogs, called Classic Legends Of Rock.

In 2008 Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash also released a studio re-recording of Argus (1972) entitled Argus Through the Looking Glass. Recorded principally by the band's first line-up with (Turner/Buck/Hatfield/Hewins), it featured additional contributions from new guitarist Danny Willson as well as guest appearances by John Wetton (onetime Wishbone Ash member - he had played on Number the Brave (1981)) and Geoff Downes of Asia.

In July 2010 the band appeared at the inaugural High Voltage festival at Victoria Park, London. They were again joined onstage by Ted Turner.

The band's first DVD recording, filmed at the Y Theatre in Leicester in March 2010, was released in January 2011. It features a setlist containing tracks from many of the classic Wishbone Ash albums, including a four-song segment of songs from Wishbone Four and the complete Argus. A 2-CD set of the concert was released in 2012.

In July 2012 Martin Turner published his autobiography No Easy Road - My Life and Times With Wishbone Ash and Beyond through his www.wishboneash.co.uk website. The book chronicles the classic Wishbone Ash years, as well as Turner's personal journey, and contained contributions from former Wishbone Ash members Ted Turner (who also wrote the foreword to the book), Laurie Wisefield and Ray Weston, as well as other key figures in the story.

On 31 August 2012, the band held a Garden Party at Liscombe Park, Bedfordshire where they played a number of less frequently performed songs for an invited audience that included fans, music press, family and friends. The band were joined on stage by guitarists Ted Turner and Laurie Wisefield drummer Steve Upton, marking a re-union of 4 out of 5 members of the two classic line ups of Wishbone Ash. A double CD of this concert was released in 2014 under the name 'Martin Turner and Friends'.

In November 2013, Tim Brown replaced Dave Wagstaffe on drums.

Following court action pursued by Andy Powell to prevent Martin Turner using the name 'Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash', [1] in 2014 Martin Turner's touring activities were re-branded as 'Martin Turner plays the music of Wishbone Ash' and later 'Martin Turner -Ex-Wishbone Ash'.

In 2015 the band released the all-original studio album Written in the Stars, credited to 'Martin Turner, founding original member of Wishbone Ash'. 2015 also saw Ray Hatfield departing to be replaced by Misha Nikolic.

Wishbone Ash (album) 1970 studio album by Wishbone Ash

Wishbone Ash is the first studio album by Wishbone Ash. It peaked at number 29 in the UK Albums Chart in January 1971.

Pilgrimage (Wishbone Ash album) 1971 studio album by Wishbone Ash

Pilgrimage is the second studio album by the rock band Wishbone Ash. The album focuses more on folk and acoustic music as opposed to the blues rock sound that dominated the first album. The album also contains an instrumental jazz workout and a four-part harmony vocal track in the spirit of Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young ("Valediction").

Argus (album) 1972 studio album by Wishbone Ash

Argus is the third album by the British rock band Wishbone Ash, released in May 1972. It is their most commercially and critically successful album. It peaked at No. 3 in the UK Albums Chart.

Wishbone Four 1973 studio album by Wishbone Ash

Wishbone Four is the fourth studio album by British rock band Wishbone Ash, released in 1973. It was a departure from their previous album, Argus, in that it lacked that recording's overall cohesion and atmosphere and the loose conceptual framework of a stately, pastoral and warring medieval England. Containing only hints of the extended twin-lead guitar harmonies, Wishbone Four's stylistic variety found its footing in acoustic folk elements in half of the eight-song set, two aggressive and melodic starters on each side of the vinyl release, and the band's first use of horns on the semi-autobiographical "rave-up" touring song "No Easy Road".

Theres the Rub 1974 studio album by Wishbone Ash

There's the Rub is the fifth studio album by rock band Wishbone Ash. It is the first album to feature guitarist/vocalist Laurie Wisefield, who would be a major part of the band's creative direction for the next 11 years. It also marked a change in sound. It was the band's first album to be recorded in America and was produced by legendary producer Bill Szymczyk. Although the trademark twin guitars were still evident, the album had a more "American" feel with a smoother production sound. Nevertheless, after the disappointing critical response the previous studio album, Wishbone Four, reviews for "There's The Rub" were much more positive.

Locked In (album) 1976 studio album by Wishbone Ash

Locked In is the sixth studio album by the rock band Wishbone Ash, and their second with guitarist Laurie Wisefield who had joined the band in 1974. The album peaked at No. 36 in the UK Albums Chart in April 1976, their lowest UK chart placing to date. Considered by many, including the band themselves, to be one of the weaker entries in their extensive catalog. The band frequently place the blame on producer Tom Dowd, who insisted the band play much quieter in the studio, removing much of the energy of their performances. The band had switched U.S. distribution from MCA Records to Atlantic Records for this and the next release, New England.

New England (Wishbone Ash album) 1976 studio album by Wishbone Ash

New England is the seventh studio album by rock band Wishbone Ash released only seven months after Locked In. It was a success compared to Locked In but still did not chart as high as most of their previous albums. It peaked at No. 22 in the UK Albums Chart. This album marked the "Americanization" of Wishbone Ash, as the band relocated from England to the Northeastern United States for tax purposes.

Just Testing 1980 studio album by Wishbone Ash

Just Testing is the tenth studio album by the British rock band Wishbone Ash, released on 18 January 1980 by MCA Records. Recorded primarily at Surrey Sound Studios in England, it was the last to feature the original lead vocalist and bass guitarist Martin Turner until the release of Nouveau Calls (1987). Number the Brave 1981 studio album by Wishbone Ash

Number the Brave is the 11th studio album by rock band Wishbone Ash. It is the first album in the band's history recorded without founding bassist/vocalist Martin Turner. Turner was replaced by John Wetton, formerly of King Crimson and Uriah Heep. Also featured on Number the Brave was singer Claire Hamill as backing vocalist, who would join Wishbone Ash on the 1981 tour to promote the album. Following "Vas Dis" on Pilgrimage and "Helpless" on Just Testing, the album featured only the third cover version released by the band on a studio album, Smokey Robinson's "Get Ready", previously a hit for The Temptations.
