Robert Anthony Stoops is an American football coach who serves as head coach and general manager of the Dallas Renegades. He was the head football coach at the University of Oklahoma from 1999 until he announced his retirement June 7, 2017. During the 2000 season, Stoops led the Sooners to an Orange Bowl victory and a national championship.

With a student body of about 1,850 in grades 9-12, Enid High School has a matriculation rate of about 65 percent. The 2005 Oklahoma Sooners football team represented the University of Oklahoma in the 2005 NCAA Division I-A football season, the 111th season of Sooner football. The team was led by two-time Walter Camp Coach of the Year Award winner, Bob Stoops, in his seventh season as head coach. They played their home games at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma. They were a charter member of the Big 12 Conference.

The 1953 Maryland Terrapins football team represented the University of Maryland in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) college football in its first season as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Maryland outscored its opponents 298–38 and recorded six defensive shutouts. Jim Tatum served as the head coach for the seventh year of his nine-year tenure. In the postseason, Maryland lost to Oklahoma in the 1954 Orange Bowl. The team was selected national champion by Associated Press, International News Service, and United Press International, leading to a consensus national champion designation.

Martin Ray Akins is a former college All-American football player and politician. He started as quarterback for the Texas Longhorns in the early 1970s and was the only Longhorn quarterback to start three seasons directing the wishbone offense, and the only wishbone quarterback to ever be an All-American. Darrell Royal said Marty Akins was the outstanding and best college football player in the Nation in 1975. Royal also said Akins making All-American as a wishbone quarterback was like winning the Heisman Trophy. Royal added the measure and degree of difficulty for what Marty Akins achieved was near impossible. And the National Recognition that Marty Akins accomplished has never been equaled by any other player in football history. Politically - in 2002 Akins was the Democratic nominee for Texas State Comptroller.
