Dragons RFC are one of the four professional rugby union regional teams in Wales. They have been owned by Dragons RFC Ltd since 2023, having been solely owned by the Welsh Rugby Union from 2017 to 2023 and jointly owned by the WRU and Newport RFC between 2004 and 2017. Dragons play their home games at Rodney Parade, Newport, which was the home of Newport RFC from 1877 to 2017, and is shared with Newport County AFC, the city's English Football League team. They play in the United Rugby Championship and the European Rugby Champions Cup/European Rugby Challenge Cup. The region they represent covers an area of southeast Wales including Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen with a total population approaching 600,000 and they are affiliated with a number of semi-professional and amateur clubs throughout the area, including Pontypool RFC, Caerphilly RFC, Cross Keys RFC, Ebbw Vale RFC and Newport RFC.
Gavin Lloyd Henson is a Welsh former professional rugby union player, who played as a fly-half, fullback and inside centre.
Nicholas John Robinson is a former Wales international rugby union player who played at fly-half.
Gavin Michael Thomas is a Welsh former international rugby union player who played as a flanker. He played his club rugby for Tondu, Bridgend, Bath, the Ospreys, the Scarlets and the Newport Gwent Dragons, and was capped 24 times for Wales.
Dean Ryan is an English rugby union coach and former player. A former corporal in the Corp of Royal Engineers, he played for England as a Number 8. Since summer 2019 he has been head coach at the Welsh regional side, the Dragons, and was previously head coach or Director of Rugby at Guinness Premiership sides Gloucester Rugby and Worcester Warriors.
Aled Thomas is a Welsh rugby union player. A fly-half, who plays for the Scarlets in the Pro14.
Matthew James Mullan is a retired English international rugby union player, between 2010 and 2017 he gained 17 caps for England while playing club rugby for Wasps and Worcester Warriors in Premiership Rugby. He played loosehead prop but also played at hooker.
Will Harries is a Welsh former international rugby union player. A wing or fullback, he played for the Northampton Saints, Bedford Blues, Newport Gwent Dragons, and most recently Ealing Trailfinders.
Shaun Knight is an English rugby union player, currently playing for Hartpury University. He plays as a prop.
Brendan Macken is an Irish former professional rugby player.
Mathew John Protheroe is a Welsh rugby union player, who currently plays as a fullback for Hawke's Bay in New Zealand's domestic National Provincial Championship competition.
William Michael Colin Rowlands is a professional rugby union player who plays as a lock for Top 14 club Racing 92. Born in England, he represents Wales at international level after qualifying on ancestry grounds.
