In January 2020, he won the national U12 championship after going undefeated and only submitting one draw. [1]

Contents

In October 2023, he played for his country alongside Maksim Goroškov, Matic Nareks, and Rudi Olenik Čampa at the European Youth Team Championships, helping the team secure the victory. [2]

At the 45th Chess Olympiad in 2024, he was part of the Slovenian team that finished in 9th place overall. [3] [4]

At the FIDE World Youth Rapid & Blitz Championships 2024 Lavrenčič won the category U16. [5]

The Slovenian Chess Championship is the national chess championship held in Slovenia. The championship has been played since the 1950s, first as a regional championship in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, and after the independence of Slovenia as a national championship. Before 1991, the championship was usually played as a qualifier for the Yugoslav Chess Championship in which not always the best players participated. This is because the best Slovenian players were often automatically qualified for the championship based on rating or performance in other tournaments.

Chess, a strategy board game, is played all over the world. The international governing body of chess is FIDE, established in 1924. Most national chess federations are now members of FIDE; several supranational chess organizations are also affiliated with FIDE.

Ding Liren is a Chinese chess grandmaster who was the 17th World Chess Champion from 2023–24. He is also a three-time Chinese Chess Champion and was a member of the Chinese chess teams that have won the Chess Olympiads in 2014 and 2018. Ding is the first Chinese player ever to play in a Candidates Tournament and first Chinese player to pass the 2800 Elo mark on the FIDE world rankings. In July 2016, with a Blitz rating of 2875, he was the highest-rated Blitz player in the world. In July 2023, Ding became the No. 1 ranked Rapid player, with a rating of 2830. Georg Mohr is a Slovenian chess player and chess journalist. In 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2002, Mohr played for the Slovenian Olympic team. For the next three Chess Olympiads, he was selector of Slovenian Olympic men's team. In 2004 he was awarded the title of FIDE Senior Trainer.

The Slovenian Hockey League or the National Championship is the highest level ice hockey league in Slovenia. The championship phase is contested after the regular season to determine the national champion.

The Slovenia national futsal team represents Slovenia in men's international futsal and is controlled by the Football Association of Slovenia. It competes in international futsal competitions, such as the World Cup and the European Championship.

Luka Lenič is a Slovenian chess player who holds the FIDE title of Grandmaster. He is the top ranked chess player of his country. Lenič won the under-14 division of the World Youth Chess Championships in Heraklion in 2002. He won the Slovenian Chess Championship in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2013. Lenič has played for the Slovenian national team in the Chess Olympiad, European Team Chess Championship, Mitropa Cup and European Youth Team Championship. He competed in the FIDE World Cup in 2017.

Daniil Dmitrievich Dubov is a Russian chess grandmaster. He achieved his final norm for the Grandmaster title at the age of 14 years, 11 months, 14 days in 2011. Dubov won the 2018 World Rapid Chess Championship held in Saint Petersburg.

Vidit Santosh Gujrathi is an Indian chess grandmaster. He is a double gold medalist at the Olympiad. He is also a silver medalist at the Asian Games. Gujrathi attained the title of grandmaster in January 2013, becoming the 30th player from India to do so. He is the fourth Indian player to have crossed the Elo rating of 2700. Hokejsko drsalno društvo Jesenice or simply HDD Jesenice, currently named SIJ Acroni Jesenice due to sponsorship reasons, is a Slovenian ice hockey team based in Jesenice. They are members of the Alps Hockey League and the Slovenian Ice Hockey League. HDD Jesenice was founded in 2014. The club replaced a temporary team called Team Jesenice, which was established in 2013. HDD Jesenice previously competed in the Inter-National League from 2014 to 2016, before the league merged into the Alps Hockey League. The club won their first Slovenian Championship in the 2014–15 season and as a result qualified for the 2015–16 IIHF Continental Cup. Their home arena is Podmežakla Hall.

Jan Novak is a Slovenian professional footballer who plays for NK Trebnje as a forward. He is a product of the NK Krka youth system and represented Slovenia at U18 level.

Gukesh Dommaraju, also known as Gukesh D, is an Indian chess grandmaster and the reigning World Chess Champion. A chess prodigy, Dommaraju is the youngest world champion, the youngest player to have surpassed a FIDE rating of 2750, doing so at the age of 17, and the third-youngest to have surpassed 2700 at the age of 16. He earned the grandmaster title at the age of 12 and remains the third-youngest grandmaster in chess history.
