Mazgani is an Iranian-Portuguese singer-songwriter. He was born in Iran in 1974. In 1979, when the revolution took place in Iran, he and his family emigrated to Portugal.
In 2005, Mazgani was considered by the French magazine Les Inrockuptibles as one of the best 20 new European artists. His debut album, Song of the New Heart , released in 2007, contains 13 songs sung in English. Song of the New Heart was released to critical acclaim. Mazgani's strong charismatic stage presence and delivery immediately established him as one of the most respected and sought after performers in his home territory.
In 2009, netlabel OptimusDiscos1 in Portugal released the Tell the People EP , produced by Pedro Gonçalves of Dead Combo. Also in 2009, Mazgani came third in the International Songwriting Competition, AAA category, with the song "Somewhere Beneath This Sky"3; the competition judges included Tom Waits, Robert Smith, and other alternative music notables. Tell The People was released as Mazgani's first international approach, “Ladies and Gentlemen introducing… Mazgani, which featured all five EP tracks alongside five tracks from his debut album. It was released in the Benelux, Finland, Scandinavia, Canada and Australia.
His second full-length album, Song of Distance, was released in Portugal in April 2010 and that release was followed by a digital UK release via AWAL in October. It was produced by Dead Combo's Pedro V. Goncalves and Helder Nelson. The record hit no. 17 on the Portuguese charts. Mazgani toured extensively in several European territories, playing festivals in the Netherlands, Italy and France, as well as shows in Spain, Denmark and Sweden. These live performances were documented by Rui Pedro Tendinha in his road movie “The Road to Mazgani”. The documentary premiere was at the IndieLisboa 2012 Film Festival.
In that same year, the songwriter composed and directed the original musical score for a theatre adaptation of Bertolt Brecht's “Mr. Puntila and His Man Matti”, one of the most successful productions in Portugal in many years, winner of several awards including the “SIC Golden Globe Award” (Globo de Ouro SIC).
His new record Common Ground was released in April 2013 and climbed directly to Number 2 in the iTunes Portugal Top 10. It was produced by John Parish - with the collaboration of Mick Harvey (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds), and was recorded and mixed in Bristol. The album was immediately considered an “instant classic” (Blitz Magazine, June 2013) and helped broaden his audience. The first single, Distant Gardens was released in January 2013 and went on to be included on the most important playlists of Portuguese radio stations.
Lifeboat is his new record, out Abril 13th (2015) and includes reinterpretations of songs by PJ Harvey, Elvis Presley, Cole Porter, Bee Gees, Lee Hazlewood, amongst others.

Blotto was an American rock band from Albany, New York known for mixing music and humor. They formed in 1978 from the Star Spangled Washboard Band, a comedy jug band whom The New York Times described as "reminiscent of collision between the Earl Scruggs Review and the Three Stooges." Blotto's music combined new wave and soul/R&B however it had comedic themes. It began as a pick-up band in Saratoga Springs at a club then known as 17 Maple Ave., with three Washboard Band alumni, plus a drummer and a bassist. They were joined by Blanche Blotto, who contributed vocals and keyboards and inspired the band's drumhead lady logo. They began to amass a following and played in the New York City area at clubs such as The Ritz, SNAFU, Eighty-Eight, and My Father's Place. DJ Vin Scelsa of WNEW-FM picked up on their initial recording of "I Wanna Be A Lifeguard," which soon became the theme song of the Jones Beach Lifeguards. Their songs were played on the Dr. Demento Show, and they appeared on television's Uncle Floyd Show. They toured frequently and were popular primarily in the northeastern United States, especially among college students.

The collection of 29 songs is separated into two-halves, with each CD of the double set containing music of a particular theme and mood. The first CD, titled "For the Heart", predominantly contains Michael's hit ballads, while the second CD, "For the Feet", comprises mostly his popular dance tunes. A DVD release also titled Ladies & Gentlemen: The Best of George Michael followed in 1999, featuring 23 music videos from Michael's career.
Dead Combo were a Portuguese band, consisting of Tó Trips and Pedro Gonçalves. Dead Combo played mostly instrumental music with a wide range of influences, such as Latin American music, Spaghetti Western film soundtracks, fado, African music, blues, rock, and others.

Balla (musician) is the musical alter-ego of Portuguese musician and record producer Armando Teixeira (musician). Balla's music references the sound and style of Serge Gainsbourg and Jaques Brel, combined with hip hop and cut-and-paste references drawn from his time as DJ and producer with both Bizarra Locomotiva and the platinum selling Da Weasel. The arrangements have been described as "reflecting a taste for sound composers like Barry Adamson". Armando Teixeira is recognized as a composer, musician and producer of note within Portugal, and his 2006 studio album A Grande Mentira has been described by Portuguese public radio station Antena 3 as "pop, electronica, eroticism and fury". "In this space, I have adopted the solitary writing of a Nick Cave or Iggy Pop" Balla has said of his own work. When asked if Balla was the summary of his years spent in Bizarra Locomotiva or Da Weasel, he responded "Probably, yes... Any of these bands were very closed, while Balla represents freedom. I am able to experiment a lot. Here there is a little bit of everything that I have done."
