Mehrra Minne Kipefa (born 15 December 1981) is a Papua New Guinean politician. He has been a member of the National Parliament of Papua New Guinea since 2012, representing the electorate of Obura-Wonenara Open. He was first elected as the sole MP of the Star Alliance Party, but had crossed to the United Resources Party by 2016. [1] [2] [3]

He graduated from the University of Papua New Guinea as an environmental chemist in 2013. Prior to his election, Kipefa had been an analytical industrial chemist for five years. [1] He was elected to the National Parliament at the 2012 election, defeating John Boito. [4] [5] He was a supporter of the O'Neill government until July 2016, when he crossed the floor and joined the opposition. [6]

The University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) is a university located in Port Moresby, capital of Papua New Guinea. It was established by ordinance of the Australian administration in 1965. This followed the Currie Commission which had enquired into higher education in Papua New Guinea. The University of Papua New Guinea Act No. 18, 1983 bill repealing the old Ordinance was passed by the National Parliament in August 1983.

2012 Papua New Guinean general election elections

A general election was held in Papua New Guinea (PNG) from 23 June to about 13 July 2012, after being postponed by a further week, due to allowing for security personnel to criss-cross the country, particularly the highland provinces. The election also followed controversy over incomplete electoral rolls and the 2011–2012 Papua New Guinean constitutional crisis between the disputed prime ministers of Sir Michael Somare and Peter O'Neill.

Kipefa is the chairman of the Foreign Relations and Trade Referral Committee and a member of the Health and Family Welfare Referral Committee, the Culture and Tourism Committee, and the Public Sector Reform and Service Delivery Special Committee. [1]
