Călărași is a district in the centre of Moldova, with the administrative headquarters in Călărași. This region is very popular for its red wine, white wine, and cognac. While the Republic of Moldova was a part of the Soviet Union, its wines were known throughout the USSR. As of January 1, 2011, its population was 78,800.
