The Memphis Comic and Fantasy Convention is an annual comic book convention that has taken place in Memphis, Tennessee since 2010. [1] It typically occurs in early fall. The convention takes place over a period of three days, and has had notable guests including Tom Kenny (voice of SpongeBob SquarePants), Denise Crosby (of Star Trek), and others. [2]

Comic book Publication of comics art

A comic book or comicbook, also called comic magazine or simply comic, is a publication that consists of comics art in the form of sequential juxtaposed panels that represent individual scenes. Panels are often accompanied by descriptive prose and written narrative, usually, dialog contained in word balloons emblematic of the comics art form. Although comics has some origins in 18th century Japan, comic books were first popularized in the United States and the United Kingdom during the 1930s. The first modern comic book, Famous Funnies, was released in the U.S. in 1933 and was a reprinting of earlier newspaper humor comic strips, which had established many of the story-telling devices used in comics. The term comic book derives from American comic books once being a compilation of comic strips of a humorous tone; however, this practice was replaced by featuring stories of all genres, usually not humorous in tone.

Fan convention

Fan convention, a term that predates 1942, is an event in which fans of a particular film, television series, comic book, actor, or an entire genre of entertainment, such as science fiction or anime and manga, gather to participate and hold programs and other events, and to meet experts, famous personalities, and each other. Some also incorporate commercial activity.

The event usually begins with a presentation by a notable figure in the comic book industry, and is then followed by three days of events at local Memphis venues, centering on a hotel. [3] Schoolchildren are also able to attend the event and attend a "Geek 101" which included various hands-on activities. [4]

In 2012, the convention was also the host of the Unreal Film Festival and Bricks & Heroes (a Lego conference). [5]

The company's flagship product, Lego, consists of colourful interlocking plastic bricks accompanying an array of gears, figurines called minifigures, and various other parts. Anything constructed can be taken apart again, and the pieces reused to make new things.

Dragon Con annual sci-fi convention in Atlanta

Dragon Con is a North American multigenre convention, founded in 1987, which takes place annually over the Labor Day weekend in Atlanta, Georgia. As of 2017, the convention draws attendance of over 80,000, features hundreds of guests, encompasses five hotels in the Peachtree Center neighborhood of downtown Atlanta near Centennial Olympic Park, and runs thousands of hours of programming for fans of science fiction, fantasy, comic books, and other elements of fan culture. Comiket worlds largest dōjinshi fair, held twice a year in Tokyo, Japan

Comic Market, more commonly known as Comiket, is a biannual dōjinshi fair in Tokyo, Japan. A grassroots, DIY event focused on the sale of dōjin, Comiket is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run event administered by the Comic Market Preparatory Committee (ComiketPC). Inaugurated on December 21, 1975 with an estimated 700 attendees, it has grown to become the largest fan convention in the world, with an estimated attendance of over half a million.

The David L. Lawrence Convention Center (DLLCC) is a 1,500,000-square-foot (140,000 m2) convention, conference and exhibition building in downtown Pittsburgh in the U.S. commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The New York Comic Con is an annual New York City fan convention dedicated to Western comics, graphic novels, anime, manga, video games, cosplay, toys, movies, and television. It was first held in 2006.

RealmsCon

RealmsCon is an annual three-day multi-genre convention held during September/October at the Omni Corpus Christi Hotel in Corpus Christi, Texas. The convention was created in 2005 by Daniel Velasquez.

Anime Banzai is an annual three-day anime convention held during October at the Davis Conference Center in Layton, Utah. The name of the convention roughly comes from the Japanese word for "hooray". The convention is organized by Utah Anime Promotions and is run by a volunteer staff.

Big Apple Comic Con

The Big Apple Comic Con is a New York City comic book convention, the longest-running comic book/speculative fiction/pop culture convention in New York City. It was started by retailer Michael "Mike Carbo" Carbonaro in March 1996 in the basement of the St. Paul the Apostle Church. A location that a competing show promoter Sunrise Productions Scooty O'Donnell and Partner Richard Ritz Whom Held The New York Horror-Fi Con there on October 4, 1997. During its heyday from 2001–2008, the Big Apple Comic Con often featured multiple shows per year, with a large three-day "national" convention held in November, usually held at the Penn Plaza Pavilion. The show was owned by Wizard Entertainment from 2009 to 2013, but is now back in the hands of Carbonaro.

Fan Expo Dallas is a three-day speculative fiction, fan convention now held annually in the Dallas, Texas, area. Larger in scale than the Dallas Fan Days events under the same management, Fan Expo Dallas focuses on comic book artists, writers, and publishers. These events usually also feature question and answer sessions, a large dealers room, and a number of comics and media guests signing autographs. The event, previously known as Dallas Comic Con, is produced by Informa Canada Inc. doing business as Fan Expo HQ.

Phoenix Fan Fusion

Phoenix Fan Fusion is a speculative fiction entertainment and comic book convention held annually in Phoenix, Arizona. It was founded as the Phoenix Cactus Comicon in June 2002, and originally consisted of a one-day six-hour event held in Ahwatukee, Arizona. The convention plays host to comic related panels, programming events, art contests, and autograph signings for all ages. It is a four-day event (Thursday-Sunday) held during the summer at the Phoenix Convention Center in downtown Phoenix. On Thursday evening prior to the official opening of the event, there is a preview for professionals, exhibitors, and select guests pre-registered for all four days.

Comicpalooza is a large annual, multi-genre, comic book, science fiction, anime, gaming, and pop culture convention in Southern United States and is held in Houston, Texas. The event is organized by John Simons, the originator of the event along with Startling Events, LLC. The event hosts the annual Comicpalooza Fandom Awards. It is the third largest Houston-based organized event behind Houston Rodeo and Football Season.

Montreal Comiccon

The Montreal Comiccon, under its current form, was launched in 2006 as "Montreal Comic-Con". The event features comic books, toys, games, science-fiction, horror, anime, non-sport cards and collectibles. It is held 2 times a year at the Palais des Congrès convention center in downtown Montreal, with the larger "Comic-Con" taking place in July over the course of 3 days. The same organizers also hold and a smaller one or two-day "Mini-Con", traditionally held at the end of the fall season, in early December.

Corferias

Corferias is a convention center located in the city of Bogotá Colombia, between Quinta Paredes and El Recuerdo neighborhoods. It is a venue of local, national and international events. Although it was originally created only as a fair space it has also served as an important place for social activities including voting and it is used by companies and individuals for cultural events.

E3 2012 18th Electronic Entertainment Expo

The Electronic Entertainment Expo 2012 was the 18th Electronic Entertainment Expo held. The event took place at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California. It began on June 5, 2012, and ended on June 7, 2012, with 45,700 total attendees. It was televised on Spike and streamed online to computers, mobile devices, PlayStation Home and on Xbox Live via IGN's application. This was the last event to be broadcast by G4.

IgroMir is the first large-scale annual exhibition of computer and video games in Russia, organized in Moscow by the committee of the Russian Game Developers Conference (KRI) since 2006.

Générations Star Wars et Science Fiction French convention

Générations Star Wars et Science Fiction, also called Gen SW, is a French fan convention whose main subject is the Star Wars universe. Other topics are the comics, the science fiction and the fantasy. It is held once a year in Cusset, Allier since 1999. Among its most notable guests are the major Star Wars actors Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Jake Lloyd and David Prowse or renowned comics artists like Tom Palmer and Davide Fabbri.

The Warsaw Comic Con is an annual pop culture fan convention held in Warsaw, Poland. First established in 2017, it is the biggest festival of this kind in Poland and is organized in Ptak Warsaw Expo - the largest exhibition and conference centre in Central Europe.
