A central business district (CBD) is the commercial and business centre of a city. It contains commercial space and offices, and in larger cities will often be described as a financial district. Geographically, it often coincides with the "city centre" or "downtown". However, these concepts are not necessarily synonymous: many cities have a central business district located away from its commercial and or cultural centre and or downtown/city centre, and there may be multiple CBDs within a single urban area. The CBD will often be characterised by a high degree of accessibility as well as a large variety and concentration of specialised goods and services compared to other parts of the city. For instance, Midtown Manhattan, New York City, is the largest central business district in the city and in the United States. London's city centre is usually regarded as encompassing the historic City of London and the medieval City of Westminster, while the City of London and the transformed Docklands area containing Canary Wharf are regarded as their two respective CBDs. In Chicago, the Chicago Loop is the second-largest central business district in the United States. It is also referred to as the core of the city's downtown. Mexico City also has its own historic city centre, the colonial-era "Centro Histórico," along with two CBDs: the mid-late 20th century Paseo de la Reforma – Polanco, and the new Santa Fe, respectively. Moscow and Russia's largest central business district is the Moscow International Business Center.
Citypoint is a building located on Ropemaker Street on the northern fringe of the City of London, the main financial district and historic nucleus of London.
China International Trust and Investment (CITIC) Plaza is an 80-storey, 391 m (1,283 ft) office skyscraper in the Tianhe District of Guangzhou, Guangdong, People's Republic of China. Its structural height includes two antenna-like spires on the top. Completed in June 1997, it was the tallest concrete building in the world until the completion of the Trump Tower Chicago, and the tallest in China. Currently, it ranks as the eighteenth-tallest building in China, 24th-tallest in Asia, and 35th-tallest worldwide.
Chase Tower, located in the Chicago Loop area of Chicago, in the U.S. state of Illinois at 10 South Dearborn Street, is a 60-story skyscraper completed in 1969. At 850 feet tall, it is the eleventh-tallest building in Chicago and the tallest building inside the Chicago 'L' Loop elevated tracks, and, as of May 2022, the 66th-tallest in the United States. JPMorgan Chase has its U.S. and Canada commercial and retail banking headquarters here. The building is also the headquarters of Exelon. The building and its plaza occupy the entire block bounded by Clark, Dearborn, Madison, and Monroe streets.
The World Trade Center Mexico City, commonly known by its former name, Hotel de México, is a building complex located in the wealthy neighborhood of Colonia Nápoles in central Mexico City. Its most famous and recognizable feature is the 50-story, 207 metres (679 ft) high Torre WTC, the biggest building in the local area. It is the third tallest building in Mexico City when including antenna, and at its roof height, it stands 191 metres (627 ft).
The Parque Central Complex is a housing, commercial and cultural development, implemented by Centro Simón Bolívar and located in the area known as El Conde in the center of the city of Caracas, Venezuela adjacent to Paseo Vargas.
The Torre Colpatria is a 50-story skyscraper in the downtown area of Bogotá, Colombia. It is the fourth tallest building in the country. Constructed from 1973 to 1978 and opened in 1979, it has a total height of 196 metres (643 ft), becoming the tallest skyscraper of Colombia and holding that title until 2016, when the south tower of the BD Bacatá was topped off. The main headquarters of the Colpatria Bank are located in the building, and also a great number of other banks and financial corporations have offices in it. The building lies at the intersection of 26th street and 7th avenue, in the heart of the city's downtown.
Park Towers is a high-rise condominium and apartment development located in the portion of the Perimeter Center edge city which is within the U.S. city of Sandy Springs, Georgia. The development consists of three buildings: Park Towers I, Park Towers II, and Park Towers III. Buildings II and I are the third- and fourth-tallest buildings in the city, and fourth and fifth within Perimeter Center. The area is the fourth-largest business district in metro Atlanta, and the first to reach outside the major city into the suburbs.
The Central Minneapolis community is located in the central part of the city, consisting of 6 smaller official neighborhoods, and includes Downtown Minneapolis and the central business district. It also includes the many old flour mills, the Mill District, and other historical and industrial areas of Downtown Minneapolis. It also includes some high-density residential areas surrounding it, excluding areas east of the Mississippi River. Businesses based in the Central area include the corporate headquarters of Target, US Bank, and the broadcast facilities of Minnesota CBS station WCCO-TV.
MarinaBlue, also known as Marina Blue, is a skyscraper in Miami, Florida, United States. It is located in northeastern Downtown, on Biscayne Bay along the west side of Biscayne Boulevard. The tower was one of the first buildings in Park West to be completed. Built by Hyperion Development, the developers of another building named Blue on the Bay further uptown, the building finished construction in May 2007. Marinablue is located across the street from the Miami-Dade Arena. The building rises 615 feet (187 m), and has 57 floors. Marinablue is almost all-residential, with some retail and office space on the lower floors. The building was opened to residential occupancy since the spring of 2008. The building currently stands as the 9th-tallest in Miami and the 10th-tallest in Florida, as well as the 5th-tallest residential building in the city and the state.
Centro Financiero Confinanzas, also known as Torre de David, is an unfinished abandoned skyscraper in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela. It is the third highest skyscraper in the country after the twin towers of Parque Central Complex. The construction of the tower began in 1990 but was halted in 1994 due to the Venezuelan banking crisis. As of 2018, the building remains incomplete and unused. It was damaged due to two earthquakes on 21 and 22 August 2018.
The Centro Simón Bolívar Towers TCSB also known as the Towers of Silence is a building with a pair of 32-story towers, each measuring 103 meters in height, in El Silencio district, Caracas, Venezuela. Built during the time of the presidency of Marcos Pérez Jiménez, the TCSB was opened to the public on December 6, 1954.
The Provincial Tower is a skyscraper located in the Venezuelan city of Caracas, stands out as the fifth-highest office tower in the city and Venezuela, was inaugurated in 1984, has 40 floors and is about 159 metres (522 ft) high, is located in the Candelaria Parish, northwest of Libertador Municipality of Caracas.
The Sindoni Tower is a building located in the Venezuelan city of Maracay. It is the highest tower in the city. It has an estimated height of 125 meters, and about 32 floors, making it the eighth tallest building in Venezuela, as well as being one of the newest buildings in height. It was opened in 1999. The tower is mostly used as a commercial office space.
The Isla Multiespacio Complex is among the most ambitious architectural projects of recent years in Venezuela. This is currently under construction in the Municipality of San Diego in Valencia, Carabobo State (Venezuela). Its construction started in July 2009 and is expected to be completed in 2018. From the Isla Multiespacio stands the highest office tower in the Midwest, the skyscraper would be 142 m initially but then they decided to increase the height to 245 m and 65 flooring, it's the tallest building in Venezuela, built the first private theater in the nation and a hotel designed for guests with joy social areas looking at the city from above, among other projects.
The Spiral, also known as 66 Hudson Boulevard, is a 66-floor skyscraper in Hudson Yards, Manhattan, New York City. The project was announced in 2016 by real estate developer Tishman Speyer as a 1,031-foot (314 m) skyscraper with 2.85 million square feet (265,000 m2) and 66 floors. The tower is being designed by Danish architectural firm Bjarke Ingels Group, which also designed the nearby West 57.
