The United States Amateur Championship, commonly known as the U.S. Amateur, is the leading annual golf tournament in the United States for amateur golfers. It is organized by the United States Golf Association and is currently held each August over a 7-day period.
Jerome Dunstan "Jerry" Travers was one of the leading amateur golfers of the early 20th century. He won the U.S. Amateur in 1907, 1908, 1912 and 1913, the New Jersey Amateur three times, and the Metropolitan Amateur five times. He was regarded as one of the finest match play golfers of his time and had a famous rivalry with Walter Travis. He won the 1915 U.S. Open.

The Golden Gloves in British Columbia, Canada has been a key amateur boxing tournament since its inception in 1939. The debut Golden Gloves champions in 1939 were Wayne Morris, Alan Dunn, Phil Vickery, Erick Burnell, Bob Hickey, Henry Devine and Kenny Lindsay. The first Golden Boy was Phil Vickery.
The California Amateur Championship or California Amateur is a golf championship held in California for the state's top amateur golfers. The tournament is run by the California Golf Association. The first event was held in 1912 at the Del Monte Golf Club. It was played at Pebble Beach Golf Links from 1919 to 2006. The tournament rotates between Northern California and Southern California, and involves two rounds of stroke play followed by match play.
