Michael Edward Davis AO is an Australian space lawyer. [1]

He is a former chairperson of the Space Industry Association of Australia, and a member of the International Institute of Space Law. [2]

In 1996, Davis graduated with a Master of Space Studies from the International Space University in France. [2]

The International Space University (ISU) is a university dedicated to the discovery, research and development of outer space exploration for peaceful purposes, through international and multidisciplinary education and research programs. It is a not-for-profit interdisciplinary university founded in 1987 that offers a Master of Science in Space Studies (MSS) in addition to the flagship Space Studies Program (SSP), a professional development program that has convened annually every summer since 1988 at various locations around the world.

As a proponent of establishing a dedicated Australian space agency, Davis is regularly featured in the media. [3] [4] [5]

Davis played a key role in Adelaide's successful bid in hosting the International Astronautical Federation's 2017 congress, chairing the local organising committee. [6]

International Astronautical Federation organization

The International Astronautical Federation (IAF) is an international space advocacy organisation based in Paris, and founded in 1951 as a non-governmental organization to establish a dialogue between scientists around the world and to lay the information for international space cooperation. It has over 340 members from 68 countries across the world. They are drawn from space agencies, companies, universities, professional associations, government organizations and learned societies. It is linked with the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) and the International Institute of Space Law (IISL) with whom the IAF organises the annual International Astronautical Congress (IAC).

Every year, the International Astronautical Federation together with the International Academy of Astronautics and the International Institute of Space Law (IISL), holds the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) which is hosted by one of the national society members of the IAF.

In recognition to his contribution to the Australian space industry, Davis was appointed as an Officer of the Order of Australia in the 2019 Queen's Birthday Honours. [7] [8] [9]

The 2019 Queen's Birthday Honours for Australia were announced on 10 June 2019 by the Governor-General, Sir Peter Cosgrove. The Birthday Honours were appointments by some of the 16 Commonwealth realms of Queen Elizabeth II to various orders and honours to reward and highlight good works by citizens of those countries. The Birthday Honours are awarded as part of the Queen's Official Birthday celebrations during the month of June.
