The Leitrim County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) or Leitrim GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Leitrim. The county board is also responsible for the Leitrim inter-county teams. The county football team play in the Connacht Senior Football Championship and compete in Division 4 of the National Football League. Considered "Connacht's traditional minnows" and "one of the GAA's Cinderella counties", Leitrim are never seriously seen as likely to win a major title. They have won the Connacht Senior Football Championship on two occasions, the first in 1927 and their second in 1994.

Playing primarily in a full-back position, he won five Connacht Senior medals and two All-Ireland medals. Fahey is the brother of Niamh, the Republic of Ireland women's national football team player.

Philip McGuinness was an Irish Gaelic footballer who was a panel member on the Leitrim county team until 2010. He died on 19 April 2010 after an accidental collision in a club game in County Leitrim. Mohill GAA club renamed its home ground the Philly McGuinness Memorial Park in his honour.
Seamus Quinn is a former Gaelic footballer from Gortletteragh, County Leitrim. Along with Mickey Quinn he is Leitrim's only All Star winner. Quinn won an All Star at full-back in 1994. This was in Leitrim's Connacht Senior Football Championship winning season; Quinn would go on to become the last remaining member of that team following the departure of Fergal Reynolds.
Lorcan Mulvey is a Gaelic footballer. He has played club football for Butlersbridge and also played for the Cavan county team at all levels. He played for the Cavan senior team for eight years until 2010. Since moving to London he has transferred to Fulham Irish and played for the London county team.
Packy McGarty was a Gaelic football player from Mohill, County Leitrim. He played for the Leitrim County Team for 23 years between 1949 and 1971, playing his first senior game at the age of 16.
