Michael Kim (born 1968) is a Canadian concert pianist and professor. He is currently the Dean of the Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University in London, Ontario and has held the position since August 2021. [1] He was also Dean of the School of Music at Brandon University [2] and earlier Chair of the Keyboard Department, and faculty associate to the President at Lawrence University, Wisconsin.
Kim was born in Quebec City, Quebec. Discouraged by his father (a professional orchestra musician) from entering the music field early on, Dr. Kim began piano lessons at age 11, [3] and made his professional debut at age 15, performing Rachmaninov's first piano concerto with the Calgary Philharmonic at the Banff Festival of the Arts.
Kin graduated from the Academy of Music at Mount Royal University and the University of Calgary where he studied under Marilyn Engle. He also holds Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the Juilliard School.
Kim toured extensively as a recitalist and chamber musician throughout North America, South America, the United Kingdom and Korea, also performing as concerto soloist with the Boston and Cincinnati Pops, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and many major Canadian orchestras. [4]
In 2001, while faculty member at Lawrence University, Kim married fellow pianist Kyung Kim (Park) who was also a piano faculty member there
In 2008, Kim was appointed Dean of the School of Music at Brandon University, a position he held until 2015. [4]
Kim has won grand prizes in the CBC National Radio Competition for Young Performers [5] and the Canadian Music Competition, Canada Council for the Arts, and prizes in the Scottish, Leeds, and Ivo Pogorelich International Piano Competitions.
In 2010, Kim provided classical accompaniment to the play The Schumann Letters in Toronto. [6] He also continued to perform solo recitals. [4]
In 2015, Kim was hired as director of the University of Minnesota School of Music. [7]
Michael and Kyung Kim collaborate frequently as a duo, especially in one piano four hand repertoire. [8] In 2017 the couple performed with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. [9] That year Kim also performed as part of the play Nadia, in which he emulated various composers who had been students of Nadia Boulanger. [10]
Constantin "Dinu" Lipatti was a Romanian classical pianist and composer whose career was cut short by his death from effects related to Hodgkin's disease at age 33. He was elected posthumously to the Romanian Academy. He composed few works, all of which demonstrated a strong influence from Bartok.

Yeol Eum Son is a South Korean classical pianist. She first drew international attention in October 2004 at age 18 when she appeared as a soloist performing Liszt Piano Concerto No. 1 with the New York Philharmonic under the baton of Lorin Maazel on their Asia tour in Seoul, Daejeon, and Tokyo. Son again performed with Maazel and the New York Philharmonic when they returned to the Seoul Arts Center in February 2008, this time as soloist for Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 2.
Daejin Kim is a South Korean pianist, an alumnus of the Juilliard School. He won the first prize in the 6th Robert Casadesus International Piano Competition - which is called Cleveland Competition today, in 1985. Kim is a professor of piano, the Dean of the School of Music at the Korea National University of Arts, and the music director of the Changwon Philharmonic Orchestra.
Ronald Turini is a Canadian pianist, and the first Canadian artist to win a prize at the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition, the Queen Elisabeth Competition, and the Geneva International Music Competition.
Carol Rosenberger is a classical pianist. In 1976, Rosenberger was chosen to represent America's women concert artists by the President's National Commission on the Observance of International Women's Year. She has given performance workshops for young musicians on campuses nationwide. Rosenberger recorded over 30 albums on the Delos Productions, Inc. recording label. Rosenberger's memoir, To Play Again: A Memoir of Musical Survival was published in 2018 by She Writes Press.

Robert Herschel Silverman, CM, born May 25, 1938 in Montreal is a noted Canadian pianist and piano pedagogue. He was made Member of the Order of Canada in 2013. In 1998 he became the inaugural recipient of the Paul de Hueck and Norman Walford Career Achievement Award of the Ontario Arts Foundation. His widely acclaimed 10-CD recording of all thirty-two Beethoven sonatas was short-listed for a Juno Award for Best Classical Album: Solo or Chamber Ensemble. His Liszt recording was awarded the 1977 Grand Prix du disque by the Budapest Liszt Society. He lives in Vancouver with his wife and occasional duet partner, pianist Ellen (Nivert) Silverman.
