Major-General Michael Dalrymple Regan CB OBE (born 6 January 1942) is a former British Army officer.
Educated at St Boniface's Catholic College and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Regan was commissioned into the King's Shropshire Light Infantry in 1962. [1] He became commanding officer of 3rd Battalion The Light Infantry in 1982. [1] He went on to be commander 20th Armoured Brigade in 1985, Deputy Chief of Staff at Headquarters UK Land Forces in 1989 and General Officer Commanding Wales and Western District in 1991. [2] His last appointment was as Director-General, Adjutant General's Corps in 1994 before retiring in 1996. [2]
In 1974 he married Victoria Grenfell; they have two daughters. [1]
The Ceylon Defence Force (CDF) was established in 1910 by the Ceylonese legislation Ceylon Defence Force Ordinance, which reformed the Ceylon Volunteer Force (CVF) that existed previously as the military reserve in the British Crown colony of Ceylon. At the time of forming it was only a reserve force but soon developed into a regular force responsible for the defence of Ceylon. The CDF was under the command of the General Officer Commanding, Ceylon of the British Army in Ceylon if mobilised. However mobilisation could be carried out only under orders from the Governor.

He took over as COAS from General Bipin Rawat on 31 December 2019 after the latter completed his term. Prior to his appointment as the COAS, the general served as the 40th Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS) of the Indian Army, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of Eastern Command and General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Army Training Command.
