He was previously ranked #1 on the official ITTF world rankings for 27 consecutive months, from October 2007 to December 2009. In April 2011, he was again the top ranked male player in the world. He is known to execute the Reverse Penhold Backhand (RPB) with exceptional skill.

Peter Paul Fernandes M.B.E was an Indian field hockey player who competed at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany. His selection made him the first Goan to represent India in hockey at the Olympics. He attended Saint Patrick's High School, Karachi. He also played in nine first-class cricket matches.

The Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF) is the national governing body to develop and promote the sport of Table Tennis in Pakistan. In 1951, Pakistan Table Tennis Federation was formed in Lahore. In the same year, PTTF started its activities for the promotion of Table Tennis in the Country. The first National Table Tennis Championship was held in the Burt Institute, Lahore. The PTTF is the member organization of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
