Michael Stern (born June 13, 1979) is an American real estate developer. [1]
Stern was born on June 13, 1979, to a Jewish family and raised in Five Towns on Long Island. [2] He is a graduate of Lawrence High School. [2]
After school, he took a job as a project manager for a developer in Florida and after three years - with funding from friends and family - he began to build spec homes on the side. [2] This eventually evolved into the building of townhouses, mid-rises and high-rises. [2] In the early 2000s, he returned to New York, where he built low-rise houses in the four boroughs. [2]
In a joint venture with Kevin P. Maloney's Property Markets Group, JDS completed the conversion of the Walker Tower at 212 West 18th Street in Chelsea into condominiums [3] built the 1,428 foot 111 West 57th Street in Manhattan [3] [4] [5] with non-union labor, unprecedented for large-scale construction in Manhattan. [4] JDS also developed The Copper (originally known as 626 First Avenue), a dual-tower residential skyscraper in the Kips Bay neighborhood of New York City, in Manhattan [6] and the 1,066 foot Brooklyn Tower, which became the tallest structure in New York City outside Manhattan. Metropolitan Tower is a mixed-use skyscraper at 146 West 57th Street in the Midtown Manhattan neighborhood of New York City. Completed in 1987 and designed by SLCE Architects, the building measures 716 ft (218 m) tall with 68 stories. Metropolitan Tower is designed with a black-glass facade, with a rectangular 18-story base topped by a 48-story triangular tower. It was developed by Harry Macklowe.
The Solow Building, also known as 9 West 57th Street, is a skyscraper in the Midtown Manhattan neighborhood of New York City. Since then, it has been owned by his son Stefan Soloviev.

111 West 57th Street, also known as Steinway Tower, is a supertall residential skyscraper in the Midtown Manhattan neighborhood of New York City, United States. Developed by JDS Development Group and Property Markets Group, it is situated along Billionaires' Row on the north side of 57th Street near Sixth Avenue. The main portion of the building is an 84-story, 1,428-foot (435-meter) tower designed by SHoP Architects and completed in 2021. Preserved at the base is the 16-story Steinway Building, a former Steinway & Sons store designed by Warren and Wetmore and completed in 1925, which originally carried the address 111 West 57th Street.

Preserved at the skyscraper's base is the Dime Savings Bank Building, designed by Mowbray and Uffinger, which dates to the 1900s.
