Michel Ghislain Stapleaux (26 June 1799, Brussels - 1881, Gien) was a Belgian portraitist and history painter. He was the husband of the flower painter Louise Schavije and won two gold medals for history painting, in the competitions at Brussels in 1822 and Antwerp in 1823.
He studied under the French painter Jacques-Louis David and was his last assistant during his years of exile in Brussels. His main collaboration with his master was Mars Disarmed by Venus and the Graces - he organised its exhibition in Paris in 1824. He also completed David's The Anger of Achilles and was put in charge of supervising the engravings after Speech in the tennis court, The Coronation of Napoleon and Leonidas at Thermopylae . He was present at David's death, took part in his funeral in January 1826 with Joseph Paelinck and François-Joseph Navez and placed David's palette and paintbrushes on his tomb.
In 1834 he was commissioned to paint the portraits of Jérôme Bonaparte's family in Stuttgart as official painter to the king of Wurtemberg - he received the grand medal of merit of Wurtemberg in 1839.

David Teniers III, also referred to as David Teniers junior was a Flemish painter and tapestry designer who was mainly active in Antwerp, Madrid and Brussels. He is known for his portraits, religious compositions and genre scenes.
Henri Leys, Hendrik Leys or Jan August Hendrik, Baron Leys was a Belgian painter and printmaker. He was a leading representative of the historical or Romantic school in Belgian art and became a pioneer of the Realist movement in Belgium. His history and genre paintings and portraits earned him a European-wide reputation and his style was influential on artists in and outside Belgium.

Jean-François Portaels or Jan Portaels was a Belgian painter of genre scenes, biblical stories, landscapes, portraits and orientalist subjects. He was also a teacher and director of the Academy of Fine Arts of Ghent and the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. He is regarded as the founder of the Belgian Orientalist school. He was praised in his time as the premier painter of 'everyday elegance and feminine grace'. Through his art, teaching and his leadership of the Académie Royale in Brussels he exerted an important influence on the next generation of Belgian artists, including his pupil Théo van Rysselberghe.
Théobald Michau (1676–1765) was a conservative Walloon painter of landscapes, more famous in his own time than he is today.
Jan Baptiste de Jonghe or Jean-Baptiste de Jonghe was a Belgian painter, draughtsman, etcher and lithographer. He is known for his Romantic landscapes with people, herds and ruins. In his graphic work he also made views of cities in the area of what is now Belgium and the Netherlands. He was an art professor at the Academy of Kortrijk and the Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts.
Salomon Leonardus Verveer was a Dutch marinist and landscape painter. He was one of the most versatile and successful artists at the time of the Dutch romance, both at home and abroad. His sepia gouache and drawings are much appreciated. He is buried at the old Scheveningseweg Jewish cemetery in The Hague. His tomb, a large sarcophagus resting on a catafalque, is one of the most striking monuments in this historic cemetery.
Carel Jacobus Behr was a Dutch painter, watercolorist and draftsman. He was a pupil of Bartholomeus Johannes van Hove and mainly painted cityscapes, genre scenes and portraits.

Jozef Geirnaert, also known as Jozef Lodewijk Geirnaert, Théodore-Joseph-Louis Geirnaert and Joseph Louis Geirnaert, was a 19th-century painter and draughtsman from Belgium. He is known for his genre scenes, portraits as well as his historical, religious and mythological paintings. He was first influenced by the Neoclassical style of Jacques-Louis David and later by the version of Romanticism that was in vogue in Belgium from the 1830s.
Carlos Sebastián Pedro Hubert de Haes was a Spanish painter from Belgium. He was noted for the Realism in his landscapes, and was considered to be the "first contemporary Spanish artist able to capture something of a particularly Spanish 'essence' in his work". He was cited along with Jenaro Perez Villaamil and Aureliano de Beruete as one of the three Spanish grand masters of landscape painting, the latter of which was his pupil.
Édouard De Bièfve was a Belgian history and portrait painter. He was one of the leading representatives of the romantic movement in Belgium and his work had an important influence on the development of history painting in Germany.
Jacobus Albertus Michael Jacobs, known as Jacob Jacobs was a Belgian landscape and seascape painter in the Romantic style, with a preference for northern and "oriental" scenes.
Joseph Denis Odevaere, or Joseph-Désiré Odevaere, was a Neo-Classical painter from the Southern Netherlands. He served as court painter to King William I.
Jef Leempoels or Joseph Leempoels was a Belgian painter who was renowned in his lifetime for his society and official portraits as well as his genre scenes and symbolist compositions. He worked in other genres such as still lifes and landscapes. His work ignored modernist developments and his style has variously been described as academic, realist and symbolist.
David Oyens and Pieter Oyens, identical twins, were Dutch painters who specialized in genre scenes. They both spent most of their careers in Brussels. Their name was originally spelled "Oijens".
