The Michigan Tech Research Institute (MTRI) is a research center of Michigan Technological University located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. [1] The institute specializes in advancing the state of the art in remote sensing and information technology for a variety of applications.

Michigan Technological University University in Houghton, Michigan

Michigan Technological University is a public research university in Houghton, Michigan. Its main campus sits on 925 acres (374 ha) on a bluff overlooking Portage Lake. Michigan Tech was founded in 1885 as the first post-secondary institution in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and was created to train mining engineers to operate the local copper mines. Science, technology, forestry and business have been added to the numerous engineering disciplines, and Michigan Tech now offers more than 130 degree programs through its five colleges and schools.

MTRI has its heritage in the branch of the Environmental Research Institute of Michigan (ERIM) that remained not-for-profit and developed into the Altarum Institute after ERIM's organization was divided by a corporate takeover in the late 1990s. It became part of Michigan Tech in 2006 and includes research programs related to national security, protecting and evaluating critical infrastructure, bioinformatics, earth sciences, and environmental processes, including transportation.

Altarum is a nonprofit research and consulting organization that serves government health insurers, health foundations, and other nonprofit clients that focus on health and health care. Altarum traces its history back to 1946 as Willow Run Laboratory in Ypsilanti, Michigan. In 1972, Willow Run became the Environmental Research Institute of Michigan (ERIM). In 2001, ERIM acquired Vector Research, Inc., a health care information system company, and changed its name to Altarum.

The College can trace its origins to 1872, and was formally established in 1903. Today, The College of Engineering has 14 departments of study.
