Mickey's 90th Spectacular is a two-hour television special broadcast on ABC on November 4, 2018. It celebrates the 90th anniversary of the debut of Walt Disney's animated character Mickey Mouse.

Production

On August 7, 2018, Disney announced Mickey's 90th Spectacular, which will be "an evening of musical performances, moving tributes, and rare short films never before seen by the public." It was produced and directed by Don Mischer, who previously helmed the Disney specials The Muppets Celebrate Jim Henson and The Grand Opening of Euro Disney; Charlie Haykel and Juliane Hare served as executive producers. [1]

Many guest stars appeared during the show, including Skylar Astin, Kelsea Ballerini, Kristen Bell, Miles Brown, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Tom Holland, Anna Camp, Sofia Carson, Josh Gad, Tony Hale, Sarah Hyland, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Sage Steele, as well as original Mouseketeers Bobby Burgess and Sharon Baird, and Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger. Wishes: A Magical Gathering of Disney Dreams was a fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom theme park of Walt Disney World. The show debuted at the park on October 9, 2003, and was developed by Walt Disney Creative Entertainment, under the direction of VP Parades & Spectaculars, Steve Davison, who was assigned to create a replacement for the 32-year-old Fantasy in the Sky fireworks. Several variations of the show at Walt Disney World include Happy HalloWishes during "Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party", Holiday Wishes during "Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party", and Magic, Music and Mayhem during the 2007 event Disney's Pirate and Princess Party. The multimedia version at Disneyland Park in Disneyland Paris premiered on July 16, 2005 and had its final show on August 25, 2007. The show at the Magic Kingdom was sponsored by Pandora Jewelry. Fantasy in the Sky was the first fireworks performance at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, beginning in 1958 and running until 1996. The show also appeared at the Magic Kingdom in Lake Buena Vista, Florida from 1971 until 2003, at Tokyo Disneyland in Urayasu, Chiba, Japan from 1983 until 1988 and at Disneyland Paris from 1993 to 2005 in Marne-la-Vallee, France.

Mickey's 60th Birthday is a 1988 American live-action/animated television special broadcast on The Magical World of Disney on November 13, 1988 on NBC. As the title suggests, it was produced for the 60th anniversary of the Mickey Mouse character. Like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, much of the footage featured in the film is live-action with newly made animation provided by Murakami-Wolf-Swenson. It was rebroadcast on Disney Channel Europe on November 18, 2008 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the special, as well as Mickey's 80th birthday.

Ignite the Dream: A Nighttime Spectacular of Magic and Light was a nighttime spectacular at Shanghai Disneyland Park in the Shanghai Disney Resort. Ignite the Dream unfolds on the park's castle, Enchanted Storybook Castle, similar to other hybrid-nighttime castle shows found at other Disney parks, including: Disney Illuminations at Disneyland Paris for the 25th Anniversary edition. The show features fireworks, water fountains, fire, lasers, projection mapping, and searchlights. The show’s story is centered on Mickey Mouse flying through the evening sky after discovering a magical spark that ignites his imagination.

The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60 was a television special celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Disneyland theme park in Anaheim, California, which aired February 21, 2016. The special was largely broadcast from the Hollywood and Highland Center. It is the second episode of the re-incarnation of The Wonderful World of Disney, after returning as an infrequent series of specials in 2015.
