The Mid-American Conference (MAC) is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I collegiate athletic conference with a membership base in the Great Lakes region that stretches from Western New York to Illinois. Nine of the twelve full member schools are in Ohio and Michigan, with single members located in Illinois, Indiana, and New York. For football, the MAC participates in the NCAA's Football Bowl Subdivision.
Caleb Porter is an American soccer coach who most recently served as the head coach of Major League Soccer club Columbus Crew from 2019 to 2022. He was previously head coach of the Portland Timbers from 2013 until 2017. He won MLS Cup in 2015 with Portland and 2020 with Columbus. In addition to MLS, he coached the United States U-23 team in 2011–12, and the University of Akron men's team from 2006 to 2012, winning the NCAA title in 2010.

The Akron Zips men's soccer team is an intercollegiate varsity sports team of the University of Akron. As of the next National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I men's soccer season in 2023, the Zips will play in the Big East Conference. This move followed Akron's full-time home of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) shutting down its men's soccer league after the 2022 season. Akron is regularly ranked in the Top 10 NSCAA collegiate men's soccer poll. They have been ranked No. 1 previously in 2005, 2009, 2010, and 2016. The Zips have played their home games at FirstEnergy Stadium-Cub Cadet Field, formerly named Lee R. Jackson Soccer Field and Cub Cadet Field, since 1966. They won their first national championship in 2010.
The 2005 MAC men's basketball tournament, a part of the 2004-05 NCAA Division I men's basketball season, took place from March 7–12 at Gund Arena in Cleveland. Its winner received the Mid-American Conference's automatic bid to the 2005 NCAA tournament. It is a single-elimination tournament with four rounds and the three highest seeds received byes in the first round. All MAC teams were invited to participate. Miami, the MAC regular season winner, received the number one seed in the tournament. Fourth-seeded Ohio beat Miami in the semi-finals and defeated second-seeded Buffalo in overtime in the final. In the NCAA Ohio lost in the first round to Florida. Leon Williams of Ohio was named the tournament MVP.
The 2004 MAC men's basketball tournament, a part of the 2003-04 NCAA Division I men's basketball season, took place from March 8–13 at Gund Arena in Cleveland. Its winner received the Mid-American Conference's automatic bid to the 2004 NCAA tournament. It was a single-elimination tournament with four rounds, and the three highest seeds received byes in the first round. All MAC teams were invited to participate. Western Michigan, the MAC regular season winner, received the number one seed in the tournament. Western Michigan defeated Kent State in the final. In the NCAA they lost in the first round to Vanderbilt.
The 2000–01 Ohio Bobcats men's basketball team represented Ohio University in the college basketball season of 2000–01. The team was coached by Larry Hunter in his 12th and final season at Ohio and played their home games at the Convocation Center. Hunter was terminated after the season for a lack of postseason success.
The 2014 MAC Championship Game was played on Friday, December 5, 2014, and featured the East Division Champion Bowling Green Falcons and the West Division Champion Northern Illinois Huskies.
The 2019 Eastern Michigan Eagles football team represented Eastern Michigan University during the 2019 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Eagles were led by sixth-year head coach Chris Creighton and played their home games at Rynearson Stadium in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
