Michael Gary Joseph Fiore is a former first baseman in Major League Baseball. Mike was born in Brooklyn, New York and attended Lafayette High School. He was signed by the New York Mets before the 1963 season, drafted by the Baltimore Orioles from the Mets in the 1963 first-year draft, and later drafted by the Kansas City Royals from the Orioles as the 17th pick in the 1968 expansion draft. He played for the Orioles (1968), Royals (1969–1970), Boston Red Sox (1970–1971), St. Louis Cardinals (1972), and San Diego Padres(1972).

The 1970 Kansas City Royals season was their second in Major League Baseball. The Royals finished tied for fourth place with the Milwaukee Brewers in the American League West with a record of 65-97, 33 games behind the division champion Minnesota Twins. Charlie Metro took over as manager when Joe Gordon resigned after the Royals' initial season, but was replaced by Bob Lemon following a 19-33 start. Bob Oliver hit a team-high 27 home runs, becoming the first Royals player to hit 20 or more home runs in a season.

The Martinsville Phillies were a short season minor league baseball team located in Martinsville, Virginia. Affiliated with the Philadelphia Phillies, they existed from 1988 to 1998, playing in the Appalachian League. They played their home games at Hooker Field. Martinsville was also home to the Martinsville Astros (1999-2003), Martinsville A's (1945-1949) and the Martinsville Manufacturers (1934-1941).
