Mike Ross (born September 8, 1973) is a Canadian announcer, broadcaster and actor. He is currently the PA announcer for the Toronto Maple Leafs and also a presenter on AMI-audio.

Education and starting in radio

Ross graduated from the École secondaire publique De La Salle in Ottawa and went on to study at Carleton University [1] and volunteered at CKCU, Carleton's campus radio station, where he first did sports on the radio. [2]

Soon after, he began working in the promotions department at Rawlco's Energy 1200 and Majic 100 in Ottawa.

Sports radio career

In 1998, 1200 AM went all sports and Ross became the morning show producer and co-host on OSR 1200. [3]

In 1999, when CHUM Limited bought Rawlco's Ottawa stations, he was moved to the afternoon drive show with Duke and the Dandyman.

In 2001, CHUM launched a national sports radio network, The Team and hired him to produce the afternoon drive show from Toronto as well as serve as a general sports reporter covering the NHL, CFL, NBA and Major League Baseball. [4]

In 2002, when CHUM pulled out of the national sports radio project, Ross moved over to television as an associate producer for Rogers Sportsnet.

Ross joined XM Canada's "Home Ice" hockey channel when it launched in 2005 (renamed Sirius XM NHL Network Radio in 2013), [5] as the producer of the midday show with Jim Tatti and Gary Green. Soon thereafter, Ross became the show's back-up host and co-host who filled in for Tatti or Green.

In 2008, Ross became co-host of the main afternoon show, In the Slot with Phil Esposito. [6]

From 2009 until 2015, Ross hosted Hockey This Morning along with Peter Berce and Shawn Lavigne. The show was heard weekdays from 7am to 11am. [7]

As part of a restructuring of SiriusXM Satellite Radio's NHL Network Radio channel lineup, Ross was let go on October 5, 2015 and replaced by Stellick & Simmer hosted by Gord Stellick and Rob Simpson.

Public Address announcer

In February 2010, Ross was the guest PA announcer for the Ottawa Senators. Earlier in his career, he was also the stadium announcer for the Ottawa Lynx and the arena announcer for the Ottawa 67's. [8] He was also the PA announcer for the 2015 World Junior Hockey Championships at the Air Canada Centre. [9]

In 2017, Ross was a public address announcer at the Invictus Games in Toronto. [10]

Ross became the fourth public address announcer in the history of the Toronto Maple Leafs, beginning with the 2016-2017 season. [9]

AMI

From February 2016 until late 2019 Ross hosted Live From Studio 5, a current affairs morning show on AMI-audio, the audio channel of Accessible Media Inc. (AMI). The show was simulcast on AMI-tv beginning in the fall of 2018. [11] Ross moved behind the scenes to become AMI's news director in December 2019. [12] He continued to host as anchor of The Gazette, a daily news show and reading service for blind and vision impaired listeners on AMI-audio, [13] until August 2021. From September 2021 to August 2024 he was co-host of AMI-audio's The Globe and Mail Today. [14] Since September 2024 he has been co-host of The Guardian Daily, featuring articles from the British newspaper. [15]

Acting and voice over work

Since 2021, Ross has landed roles on television and feature film and some voice acting roles as well. He has appeared on shows like Hotel Paranormal (2021), See No Evil (2021) and A Time To Kill (2021), along with the Gail Maurice-directed feature film Rosie (2022) and the award-winning web-series Creepy Bits (2021), for which he was nominated for two best actor awards at web festivals in New Zealand and Baltimore. He has also had voice over roles in the virtual experience "Spacewalk", along with commercials for Tim Hortons and Clearscore.ca.

CHUM is a Canadian AM radio station in Toronto, Ontario. The station is owned and operated by Bell Media. CHUM's studios are co-located with TSN at 9 Channel Nine Court in the Agincourt neighbourhood of Scarborough, with its transmitter array located in the Clarkson neighbourhood of Mississauga. TSN 1050 is simulcast on Bell Satellite TV channel 989, and on Shaw Direct channel 867. The station is also carried on the 3rd HD digital subchannel of CKFM-FM.

Andrew J. Frost is a retired Canadian radio personality most recently employed by 94.3 The Drive in Winnipeg, Manitoba before the station dropped its "classic rock" format in 2021. He is best known for his work with Q107 and AM 640 in Toronto, Ontario from 1985 to 2018 and as the public address announcer for the Toronto Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre from 1999 to 2016. He replaced long-time PA announcer Paul Morris who retired at the end of the 1998–99 hockey season. Earlier in his radio career, Frost worked at 92 CITI-FM and 58 CKY-AM in Winnipeg.

Robert Alan "Bob" McCown is an American-Canadian radio personality. He is best known as the long-time host of the Canadian sports talk show Prime Time Sports from its inception on October 2, 1989 to June 21, 2019. He now currently hosts The Bob McCown podcast on his YouTube channel, which is also broadcast on satellite radio station Sirius XM weekdays from 6-7 p.m.

Currently, Stellick serves as host of the pre-game edition of "Blue And White Tonight" between 6PM-7PM on The Fan 590 during the game nights that the Toronto Maple Leafs play as well as the post-game edition of the show. Jeffrey James Marek is a television personality and radio host for properties originating from Stouffville, Ontario, Canada. Jeff has hosted Live Audio Wrestling, Leafs Lunch and The Jeff Marek Show, as well as making notable television appearances on TSN Off The Record and Leafs TV After the Horn. On October 1, 2007, he started as the host of Hockey Night in Canada Radio, signing a one-year contract with Sirius Satellite Radio in mid-August, 2007. From 2011-2024, Marek worked with Sportsnet, before being dismissed due to leaking NHL draft selections to a friend while part of the broadcasting panel. He was the host of Hockey Central and also hosts The CHL on Sportsnet. Between 2014 and 2016 he occasionally hosted Hockey Night in Canada games that were played in the morning.

Don Landry is a Canadian sports broadcaster who formerly hosted the Morning Show on The Fan 590 with Pat Marsden and then Gord Stellick.

Three guys on the Radio is a sports radio talk show. It airs live for about four hours each weekday from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Eastern on TSN 1200. In December 2009 their time slot shifted from 5:30 to 9:00 to its current time.

He created and hosted the program Maple Leaf America on Leafs TV in Toronto for four seasons beginning in 2001.
