Michael A. Wilson is an American lawyer and politician from South Dakota.
Wilson studied economics at South Dakota State University and earned a J. D. from the University of South Dakota School of Law. He was a law clerk for the Fourth Judicial Circuit Court,then worked for Morgan,Theeler,Cogley &Padrnos,starting in 1987. After moving to Rapid City,Wilson joined the Quinn,Eiesland,Day &Barker law firm. In 2007,the firm was renamed for Wilson and Ken Barker. [1]
Wilson was elected to the South Dakota House of Representatives in 1998 for District 32, [2] but lost reelection in 2000. [3] James W. Abbott and Wilson formed the Democratic gubernatorial ticket for the 2002 election, [4] [5] and lost to Republicans Mike Rounds and Dennis Daugaard. Wilson declared his candidacy for the state house in 2004,but was defeated for the second time. [6] He endorsed Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign. [7]

Pierre is the state capital,and Sioux Falls,with a population of about 192,200,is South Dakota's largest city.
Marion Michael Rounds is an American businessman and politician serving as the junior United States senator from South Dakota since 2015. A member of the Republican Party,he served as the 31st governor of South Dakota from 2003 to 2011,and in the South Dakota Senate from 1991 to 2001. In 2014,Rounds was elected to the United States Senate,succeeding retiring Democrat Tim Johnson. He was reelected in 2020 over Democratic nominee Dan Ahlers.

Stephanie Marie Herseth Sandlin is an American attorney,university administrator,and politician from the Democratic Party. She served in the United States House of Representatives for South Dakota's at-large congressional district from 2004 until 2011. Sandlin was first elected to Congress in a special election on July 12,2004 and was re-elected three times before losing her seat in Congress to Republican Kristi Noem in 2010. She was the youngest female member of the House,and the first woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from South Dakota. Before her 2007 marriage to Max Sandlin,she was known as Stephanie Herseth. She is a Democrat and a member of the Herseth family of South Dakota.
Larry Lee Pressler is an American lawyer and politician from South Dakota who served in the United States House of Representatives (1975–1979) and United States Senate (1979–1997) as a Republican. He remained active in politics following his failed reelection campaign in 1996 and attempted to regain his former seat in 2014 as an independent,but was unsuccessful. North Dakota held two statewide elections in 2016:a primary election on Tuesday,June 14,and a general election on Tuesday,November 8. In addition,each township elected officers on Tuesday,March 15,and each school district selected a date between April 1 and June 30 to hold their elections. This would have been the first election since the state legislature revoked the ability to use a student or military ID to satisfy state ID voting requirements,but a court ruling in August struck the down the provision,and the election was held under the 2013 rules.
The 2018 South Dakota gubernatorial election took place on November 6,2018,to elect the next governor of South Dakota. Incumbent Republican governor Dennis Daugaard was term-limited and could not seek re-election to a third consecutive term.
The 1968 United States Senate election in South Dakota took place on November 5,1968. Incumbent Democratic Senator George McGovern ran for re-election to a second term. He was challenged by former Governor Archie M. Gubbrud,who was persuaded to enter the race by the South Dakota Republican establishment. McGovern defeated Gubbrud by a wide margin,even as Richard Nixon was defeating Hubert Humphrey in the state's presidential election in a landslide.
