Mohammad Shafiq (died 5 February 2020) was a Pakistani politician from Gilgit-Baltistan belonging to Pakistan Muslim League (N). He was a member of the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly. He was a minister of the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan too.
Shafiq was elected as a legislator of the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly from Ghanche-III in 2015. [1] [2] He also served as the mines and minerals,industries,labour &commerce and food minister of the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan. [3]
Shafiq died of cardiac arrest in Islamabad on 5 February 2020. [4]
The administrative units of Pakistan comprise four provinces,one federal territory,and two disputed territories:the provinces of Punjab,Sindh,Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,and Balochistan;the Islamabad Capital Territory;and the autonomous territories of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit–Baltistan. Gilgit-Baltistan,formerly known as the Northern Areas,is a region administered by Pakistan as an autonomous territory,and constituting the northern portion of the larger Kashmir region which has been the subject of a dispute between India and Pakistan since 1947,and between India and China from somewhat later. It borders Azad Kashmir to the south,the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the west,the Wakhan Corridor of Afghanistan to the north,the Xinjiang region of China,to the east and northeast,and the Indian-administered union territories Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to the southeast.
The Governor of Gilgit Baltistan is the appointed Head of State of the provincial government in Gilgit Baltistan,Pakistan. The governor is designated by the Prime Minister and is normally regarded a ceremonial post. However,throughout the history of Pakistan,the powers of the provincial governors were vastly increased,every time the provincial assemblies were dissolved and the administrative role came under direct control of the governors.
Chief Minister of Gilgit Baltistan is elected by the Gilgit Baltistan Assembly to serve as the head of the provincial government in Gilgit-Baltistan for a five-year term. The current Chief Minister is Khalid Khurshid,who was elected on 1 December 2020,following the 2020 Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly election.
The Gilgit-Baltistan Council has been established as per Article 33 of Gilgit-Baltistan Order,2009. Its Chairman is the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan is the Vice-Chairman over the six members-elected. It can legislate on 53 subjects as provided in Schedule III of the Order.
The Government of Gilgit-Baltistan is the government of the autonomous territory of Gilgit-Baltistan,Pakistan. Its powers and structure are set out in the 2009 Gilgit-Baltistan Empowerment and Self-Governance Order,in which 10 districts come under its authority and jurisdiction. The government includes the cabinet,selected from members the Gilgit–Baltistan Assembly,and the non-political civil staff within each department. The province is governed by a unicameral legislature with the head of government known as the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister,invariably the leader of a political party represented in the Assembly,selects members of the Cabinet. The Chief Minister and Cabinet are thus responsible the functioning of government and are entitled to remain in office so long as it maintains the confidence of the elected Assembly. The head of state of the province is known as the Governor. The terms Government of Gilgit–Baltistan or Gilgit–Baltistan Government are often used in official documents. The seat of government is in Gilgit,thus serving as the capital of the territory.
Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman is a Pakistani politician who served as the 2nd Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan and also leader of Pakistan's conservative political party PML-N,in Gilgit-Baltistan. He served in office from 26 June 2015 to 23 June 2020.
Mir Ghazanfar Ali Khan is a Pakistani politician who served as the 6th Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Baba Jan is a left-wing political activist in the Gilgit-Baltistan territory administered by Pakistan. He was sentenced to 71 years in jail by the Gilgit-Baltistani courts on charges of terrorism and of inciting public against the state during the Aliabad incident. Jan was released from jail on November 27,2020,after the Gilgit-Baltistani government agreed to release all the 14 people due to a week-long Aliabad sit by the families of the incarcerated. He is the former vice-president and now member of the Federal Committee of Awami Workers Party.
Shah Salim Khan is a former Pakistani politician and entrepreneur disqualified from the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly for having defaulted on a loan by the National Bank of Pakistan. He is the son of the 6th Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan,Mir Ghazanfar Ali Khan.

Elections were held in 24 constituencies,each electing one member to the 2nd Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly. 269 candidates contested these elections,either representing one of the political parties of Gilgit-Baltistan or being an independent candidate.

Muhammad Khalid Khurshid Khan is a Pakistani lawyer and politician who is the current Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan,from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. He has been a member of the Gilgit Baltistan Assembly since 25 November 2020.
Nawaz Khan Naji is a Pakistani politician who is member-elect of the Gilgit Baltistan Assembly. First nationalist leader to be part of GB assembly consecutively,three times (2012–16,2016–20,2020–24). He was born in a village,Sherqilla,in District Ghizer. He graduated in political science from Karachi University Sindh. He came back to GB and founded his own nationalist political party,Balawaristan National Front,on 28 December 1989. Naji is famous among educated youth especially studying in Down areas of Pakistan.
The Balawaristan National Front,more commonly known as the BNF,is a Pakistani political party of Gilgit-Baltistan. It was founded by Nawaz Khan Naji in 1989. The party calls for Gilgit-Baltistan to be given autonomy while still remaining a part of the federation of Pakistan.
