In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, Kuwait was a prosperous maritime port city and the most important trade port in the northern Gulf region. In the modern era, Kuwait is best known for the Gulf War (1990–1991).

The 1980 AFC Asian Cup was the 7th edition of the men's AFC Asian Cup, a quadrennial international football tournament organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The finals were hosted by Kuwait between 15 and 30 September 1980. The field of ten teams was split into two groups of five. Kuwait won their first championship, beating South Korea in the final 3–0.
The Iraqi invasion of Kuwait was an operation conducted by Iraq on 2 August 1990, whereby it invaded the neighboring State of Kuwait, consequently resulting in a seven-month-long Iraqi military occupation of the country. The invasion and Iraq's subsequent refusal to withdraw from Kuwait by a deadline mandated by the United Nations led to a direct military intervention by a United Nations-authorized coalition of forces led by the United States. These events came to be known as the first Gulf War, eventually resulting in the forced expulsion of Iraqi troops from Kuwait and the Iraqis setting 600 Kuwaiti oil wells on fire during their retreat.
Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah is the Emir of Kuwait and the Commander of the Kuwait Military Forces. On 30 September 2020, he succeeded to the throne following the death of his half-brother Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Nawaf had been nominated as Crown Prince on 7 February 2006.
The Banu Abs are an ancient Bedouin tribe that originated in central Arabia. They form a branch of the powerful and numerous Ghatafan tribes. They still inhabit the Arabian Peninsula and North Africa but have spread to many other regions of the world, as well. Their descendants today include the large Al Qubaisat tribe located in United Arab Emirates, Bani Rasheed tribe located in Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Yemen, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Eritrea, and Jordan, and the Banu Rawaha located mostly in Oman and the UAE. They are known to be the second strongest tribe after The Prophet's Tribe. Parts of the Mahas tribe of the Butana region in Sudan are also linked by blood to the Banu Abs due to intermarriage between the Sudanese Rashaida tribe and the Mahas peoples. One of the earliest stories concerning this tribe was the famous classical love and war story of Antar and Abla.

Qadsia Sporting Club is primarily a professional football club. Based in Kuwait City, Al Qadsia was founded in 1953 and first called Al-Jazira, before being renamed to Qadsia SC on 20 October 1960. Qadsia currently plays in the Kuwait Premier League and has won the league recordable 17 times, as the top winning club.

Saad AlـKhanfour Al-Rasheedi is a member of the Kuwaiti National Assembly, representing the fourth district. Born in 1965, Al-Rasheedi worked at the Interior Ministry before being elected to the National Assembly in 2008. Al-Rasheedi is an Independent deputy and is a member of the Al-Rashaydah tribe.
Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah was Emir of Kuwait and Commander of the Kuwait Military Forces from 29 January 2006 until his death in 2020. He was the fourth son of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
The Sheikhdom of Kuwait was a sheikhdom which gained independence from the Khalidi Emirate of Al Hasa under Sabah I bin Jaber in the year 1752. The Sheikhdom became a British protectorate between 1899 and 1961 after the Anglo-Kuwaiti agreement of 1899 was signed between Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah and the British government in India due to threats to Kuwait's independence from the Ottoman Empire.
Hilal Al Rasheedi is an Omani sport shooter. He competed at the 2000 Summer Olympics in the men's 50 metre rifle prone event, in which he tied for 25th place, and the men's 10 metre air rifle event, in which he placed 44th.
