Morgan Jones (born 23 May 1999) is a Welsh rugby union player, currently playing for United Rugby Championship side Scarlets. His preferred position is lock. [1]
Born in Nuneaton, Jones was part of the Leicester Tigers academy until he was 18. [2] After departing the club, Jones came into contact with the Welsh Exiles programme, qualifying for Wales through a Llanelli-born grandfather. [3] Jones moved from the midlands to Llanelli, joining the Scarlets academy. While part of the academy, Jones attained in a degree on criminology and criminal justice at Swansea University. [2]
Jones played for Wales U18, and made his Wales U20 debut during the 2018 Six Nations Under 20s Championship. [4] An ankle injury ruled Jones out of the 2019 Six Nations Under 20s Championship, but he returned to the team for the 2019 World Rugby Under 20 Championship. [5]
Jones signed his first professional contract for Scarlets in August 2020. [6] He made his Scarlets debut in Round 3 of the 2020–21 Pro14 against Benetton. [7] During the match, Jones received a red card, but upon review after the match, the card was rescinded. [8] Jones extended his contract in April 2021. [9]
On 21 April 2023, Jones signed another contract extension with the Scarlets, along with fellow lock Jac Price. [10]
The United Rugby Championship (URC) is an annual rugby union competition involving professional teams from Ireland, Italy, Scotland, South Africa, and Wales. For sponsorship reasons the league is known as the Vodacom United Rugby Championship in South Africa, and the BKT United Rugby Championship in the competition's other territories, the split branding mirroring the format previously adopted in Super Rugby. The Scarlets are one of the four professional Welsh rugby union teams and are based in Llanelli, Wales. Their home ground is the Parc y Scarlets stadium. They play in the United Rugby Championship and in European Professional Club Rugby competitions. The club was originally named the Llanelli Scarlets but was renamed at the start of the 2008–09 rugby season.
Samson Lee is a former Wales international rugby union player. Lee played for the Scarlets, as well as local teams Llanelli and Ammanford. His position is prop forward. Lee has represented Wales, making his debut against Argentina in November 2013.
Jordan Rhys Williams is a Welsh rugby union footballer who plays for the Dragons. His regular position is at full-back, but he has also played at fly-half and on the wing. He began his career with amateur side New Dock Stars RFC, before being signed by Llanelli RFC and ultimately breaking into the Scarlets regional side. However, he struggled to find playing time with the Scarlets and moved to Bristol in 2016, only to return to Wales with the Dragons two years later. He has also played internationally for Wales at under-16, under-18 and under-20 level, as well as for the Wales Sevens team.
Alex Jeffries is a Welsh former professional rugby union player who played as a prop. He retired from rugby due to a neck injury in April 2023.
