Mount Madonna Institute is a non-profit college specializing in the field of Yoga, Ayurvedic medicine, massage and community studies. The Institute is hosted by the Mount Madonna Center in Watsonville, Santa Cruz County, California. It is inspired by Baba Hari Dass.

Curriculum

Ayurveda School

The Ayurveda school is modeled on the Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery curriculum in India. The college offers three types of programs leading to either an Ayurvedic Lifestyle Counselor diploma, an Ayurvedic Practitioner certificate or a Master of Arts in Ayurveda. The college offers training in herbal medicine making, Ayurvedic cooking, Ayurvedic bodywork, Yoga, and clinical internships. [1] Notable faculty include Vasant Lad, John Douillard and Sarita Shrestha. [2]

Yoga School

The College of Yoga at Mount Madonna Institute offers different Yoga programs and intensives including 200 and 500 hour teacher training. The school covers topics of yoga theory, philosophy and practice, with an emphasis on traditional Ashtanga. [3]

State and international recognition

The Ayurveda college exceeds the educational guidelines of the National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA) [4] and the California Association of Ayurvedic Medicine (CAAM). [5] The Yoga school is registered with The National Yoga Registry and Yoga Alliance. [6]

California College of Ayurveda

California College of Ayurveda is an American private college specializing in the field of Ayurvedic medicine. It is located at 700 Zion Street, in Nevada City, California. Founded in 1995 by Marc Halpern, the California College of Ayurveda was the first state-approved ayurvedic college in the United States to train practitioners of Ayurvedic medicine.

The Ayurvedic Institute

The Ayurvedic Institute is an Ayurvedic school and Ayurveda health spa in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was established in 1984 by Vasant Lad as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization to teach the traditional Ayurvedic medicine of India and to provide these ancient therapies. National Ayurvedic Medical Association organization

The National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA), founded in 2000 is the largest association of Ayurvedic practitioners in the United States. It is charged with representing and supporting the profession of Ayurveda in the United States. Some of its activities include: Holding an annual conference; Lobbying to create national standards for Ayurvedic colleges and practitioners; Lobbying to create standards for a state license for Ayurvedic practitioners; Making sure that Ayurvedic medicines used in the United States are safe; Promoting the availability of professional liability insurance coverage for Ayurvedic practitioners; Supporting research into the study of Ayurveda.

The California Association of Ayurvedic Medicine (CAAM) is a non-profit professional medical organization founded in 2000 with the purpose of the establishment and growth of Ayurvedic Medicine in the state of California and support of Ayurvedic practitioners.

Sarita Shrestha Nepalese physician

Sarita Shrestha MD(Ayur), OBGYN, BAMS, is an Ayurvedic physician, professor, writer, founder and medical director of the Devi Ma Kunja Ayurvedic Hospital in Bhaktapur, Nepal, specializing in Ayurvedic women's healthcare. She is Nepal's first woman Ayurvedic physician. and its first Ayurvedic OB/GYN. She is widely regarded as the “Mother of Ayurveda” in the West.

Kaivalyadhama Health and Yoga Research Center

Paneenazhikath Narayana Vasudeva Kurup is an Indian Ayurvedic physician, medical researcher, medical writer and the founder director of the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRIMH). He is a former vice chancellor of the Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar and a former advisor of the Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy (ISM&H) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. He has published several articles and a book, A Handbook on Indian Medicinal Plants, on the traditional Indian medicine system, The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2005, for his contributions to Indian medicine.

Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute

The Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute, affiliated to the University of Kelaniya, is a higher education institute of Ayurveda education, located in Yakkala, Sri Lanka. It was established by Ayurveda Cakrawarti Pandit G.P. Wickramarachchi in 1928 as the Gampaha Sidayurveda Vidyalaya and in 1982 it was incorporated as Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Vidyalaya under the Ministry of Indigenous Medicine.

Ram Harsh Singh is an Indian practitioner of the Ayurveda system of alternative medicine and the founder vice chancellor of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Rajasthan Ayurved University. An Emeritus Professor of Banaras Hindu University and a National Professor of the Ministry of AYUSH of the Government of India, he iwas conferred with the fourth highest civilian honour of Padma Shri, in 2016.
