Mugda Medical College (MuMC)

Mugda Medical College & Hospital is a public medical college and a 500-bed healthcare facility in Dhaka. It is the 4th government medical college in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
At first, the facility was built as a general hospital which was later turned into a full-fledged medical school. [2] Its construction began in 2006. The hospital opened in July 2013, and started admitting patients in early 2014. The hospital includes a 13-story building on 9.5 acres (3.8 ha). [3] [4] [5]

Contents

It is the fourth government medical college inside Dhaka metropolitan city. From the first month of 2016, it started classes of regular MBBS course with the admission of 50 students in the first year, which has increased to 100 students every year. Besides, CPD, CME, Workshop, Seminar and Training are held here regularly for improvement of professional skills. [2]

College Building

Under the college building, there are 3 lecture galleries with AC, multimedia and other modern facilities, 1 library, conference room and various laboratories, dissection rooms, practical rooms, tutorial rooms etc.2 lecture galleries are situated on forth floor of emergency building and 1 gallery is on the forth floor of hospital building.The current college building is situated on the second, third and fourth floors of the Emergency building.

Library

Mugda Medical College has a rich library on the third floor of the hospital building beside the anatomy department. It has all types of books for MBBS & BDS curriculum. Students can borrow any book from here and read them for academic purposes. Beside the library there is a well furnished reading room where students can study together and discuss their academic knowledge.

Canteen

There is one canteen for students on forth floor of college building. But canteen facilities are not enough.

Co-curricular Activities

Students have their own social welfare and voluntary organizations, cultural and sports organizations. Various programs are organized on different national days.
On April 20, 2019, SANDHANI Mugda Medical College Unit began its journey as a new unit of SANDHANI, one of the most reputed voluntary organizations in the health sector of Bangladesh.

Notable academic achievements

It is progressing day by day with good results in various professional MBBS examinations. For example: In the 2nd professional examination held under the Dhaka University in May 2019, it achieved the honor of occupying a total of 7 places including the 2nd place among the first 10 people in the combined merit list. 1st and 5th position in the 2nd professional examination held last May 2022. The necessary and comprehensive training for various postgraduate degrees in various departments is recognized by the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons and is being conducted successfully.

Hostel Facilities

As Mugda Medical College is newly established, it does not have a separate hostel building yet. But it has somehow managed some accommodation system for both male and female students. The boys' hostel is now on the 4th floor of the hospital building. It has all the facilities for the accommodation of seniors and juniors.
The girls' hostel is situated on the twelfth floor of the hospital building. There are two hostel units on the 12th floor. First year students are accommodated in four hall rooms each having seats for eight to ten students. Senior students are allotted to the cabins each having seats for two to three students with an attached bathroom and a balcony. The hostel fee is completely free for the students.
