Muistardeaux Collective (Thomas Borden, born January 3, 1968, in West Hartford, CT, and Eric Gibbons, born October 17, 1974, on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, OH) are contemporary artists who live and work in Half Moon Bay, CA and Portland, OR.

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) is a United States Air Force base and census-designated place just east of Dayton, Ohio, in Greene and Montgomery counties. It includes both Wright and Patterson Fields, which were originally Wilbur Wright Field and Fairfield Aviation General Supply Depot. Patterson Field is approximately 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Dayton; Wright Field is approximately 5 miles (8.0 km) northeast of Dayton.

Biography

Tom Borden and Eric Gibbons are primarily a performance art duo. They met in 2007 at San Francisco Art Institute. Upon combining their artistic efforts, they created Muistardeaux Collective. The Collective takes their name from Khyssup Muistardeaux, an imaginary artist that the duo invented to be included in the three-person exhibition If The Smoke Don’t Get You, The Meatloaf Will . In this exhibition, they created a 90 lb meatloaf. [1] Despite threats of expulsion and some faculty resistance, Muistardeaux Collective received Masters of Fine Arts degrees and gave the commencement address in the form of North Sea Jazz .

San Francisco Art Institute university

San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) is a private, non-profit college of contemporary art with the main campus in the Russian Hill district of San Francisco, California. Its graduate center is in Fort Mason on Pier 2 in the Golden Gate National Recreation Center which originally was an army post. Approximately 400 undergraduates and 200 graduate students are enrolled. The institution is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), and is a member of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD).

Immediately upon being graduated, Muistardeaux Collective executed Sculpture LA at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. [2] Muistardeaux Collective also recently moderated the round-table discussion Design as an Extension of Art Practice curated by Helen Varola, at Art Los Angeles in 2010. [3]

They are displayed in 170,000 square feet (16,000 m2) of exhibition space, making the museum one of the largest in the United States overall, and one of the largest in the world for modern and contemporary art.

Design as an Extension of Art Practice was a round-table discussion organized by independent curator Helen Varola and moderated by Muistardeaux Collective during Art Los Angeles in 2010. Panelists were Peter Zellner, Christopher Mount, and Justin Beal.

Khyssup Muistardeaux, (born June 21, 1962, in Apatou, French Guiana) is the namesake of the artist collective, Muistardeaux Collective. She is an imaginary artist invented by Thomas Borden and Eric Gibbons to be included in the three-person exhibition If The Smoke Don’t Get You, The Meatloaf Will . Actress Christy Crowley appeared live as Khyssup Muistardeaux at the opening for this exhibition. Her biography states that she is French Guianese and still lists that country as her home, although she spends time in Berlin. The artist Elizabeth Pedinotti has also appeared as Khyssup Muistardeaux.

Since 1981, when Belize became independent, French Guiana has been the only territory of the mainland Americas that is still part of a European country.

In 2017, Tom moved with his family to Portland, Oregon a few miles from Eric and the Collective intensified their production. They paint and produce and perform music.

Music

Muistardeaux Collective often incorporates live and recorded music in their projects. They have written recorded and released 12 albums to date on Northern California record label Mark Williams Van Proyen Records. Muistardeaux Collective’s music is professionally managed by Ken Stallings of Stallings Group LTD.

Rigo 23 Portuguese painter

Rigo 23 is a Portuguese muralist, painter, and political artist residing in San Francisco, California. He is known in the San Francisco community for having painted a number of large, graphic "sign" murals including: One Tree next to the U.S. Route 101 on-ramp at 10th and Bryant Street, Innercity Home on a large public housing structure, Sky/Ground on a tall abandoned building at 3rd and Mission Street, and Extinct over a Shell gas station.

Grace Louise McCann Morley (1900–1985) was a museologist of global influence. She was the first director of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and held the position for 23 years starting in 1935. In an interview with Thomas Tibbs, she is credited with being a major force in encouraging young American artists. The Government of India awarded her the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award, in 1982.

Amy Franceschini American artist and designer

Amy Franceschini is a contemporary American artist and designer. Her practice spans a broad range of media including drawing, sculpture, design, net art, public art and gardening. She was a 2010 Guggenheim Fellow. Franceschini in 2009 was also a recipient of the Creative Capital Award in the discipline of Emerging Fields.

Scott Kildall American artist

Scott Kildall is an American conceptual artist working with new technologies in a variety of media including video art, prints, sculpture and performance art. Kildall works broadly with virtual worlds, networked art and speculative technologies. His work centers on repurposing technology and repackaging information from the public realm into art. The SECA Art Award is a contemporary art award program that has been organized by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMoMA) and supported by its auxiliary SECA since 1967 to honor San Francisco Bay Area artists. If The Smoke Don’t Get You, The Meatloaf Will is an art exhibit produced by Muistardeaux Collective, between June 29-July 5, 2008 at the Diego Rivera Gallery in San Francisco, California. This was Muistardeaux Collective's debut exhibit. It featured an arrow, a ninety pound meatloaf, a plexiglass smoking chamber, a 32’x8’ wood paneling painting, a video of Muistardeaux Collective chasing cows and smoking parliament cigarettes in a makeshift teepee, a 1972 Chevrolet C20 van, a two-way surveillance camera system, and an extensive air ductwork and forced air motor system. The ductwork and forced air system connected the MSU, which was parked outside the gallery, to a plexiglass vitrine containing the meatloaf, and to the smoking chamber. Both the vitrine and the chamber were connected via ductwork to two vents at the entry to the gallery. Muistardeaux Collective members Thomas Borden and Eric Gibbons lived in the MSU for the week that the exhibit was installed at the gallery.

Mildred Howard American artist

Mildred Howard is an African-American artist known primarily for her sculptural installation and mixed-media assemblages. She joined the museum as curator of photography in 1987 and was promoted to senior curator of photography in 1999 in acknowledgement of her considerable contributions to SFMOMA. A photographic historian and former curator at the Vassar College Art Gallery in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Phillips succeeded Van Deren Coke as head of one of the country’s most active departments of photography. Phillips stepped down from her full time position in 2016.

Rebeca Bollinger is an American artist working with sculpture. She works with ceramic, bronze, aluminum and glass pieces, which she combines with photographs, videos, drawings and other elements. While the themes she focuses on change from one series to another, she usually focuses on ordinary objects, which are de-contextualized and re-signified in new mediums.
