Mushy Callahan is a Canadian indie rock band based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. [1] The band's lineup consists of four members: Lucas (guitar, keyboard, backing vocals), Joel (drums, backing vocals), Noah (guitar, vocals) and Jacob McCann (bass guitar, backing vocals) and has remained constant since the band became active in 2010. [2] [3] All of the band members are brothers from a small town in Northern Alberta called Peace River.

History

Mushy Callahan received an arts development grant in 2011 from the Ontario Arts Council, [4] and the band's debut EP album, Man on the run, was released that year. It was recorded in Mike Turner's The Pocket studios in Toronto. The album was reviewed by newspaper, [5] radio, [6] and music critics. [7] and is in the top-60 international videos on the international popular-music vlog, BalconyTV. [8] The reviews were mainly, but not all, [9] positive. They won the Indie Online Band of the Month contest at 102.1 The Edge CFNY-FM [10] and in London on FM96 CFPL-FM.

The band completed a Western Canada tour and was showcase in Edgefest during the summer of 2012. [11] They performed at a daytime venue at the Toronto North by North East (NXNE) Festival. [12] Shortly after, they released a music video for the single "Shot Down" with City TV news anchor Tom Hayes. [13] [14]

Mushy Callahan recorded their debut, full-length album in 2013; it was released in the fall of that year, and was titled The Makings of a Man. [15] [16] They also performed once again as part of the 2013 NXNE Festival. [17]

In 2014 the band again toured Western Canada. [18] In 2015 they performed for a third time as part of the NXNE festival [3] and PeaceFest in Peace River in support of their album "Makings of a Man," as part of a touring run of a dozen shows across Canada from Vancouver [19] to Quebec. They are most well known for the single "Weathered Eyes," which charted at 69 on Canadian Billboard Radio and the music video was featured on AUX.TV, CMT and MUCH as well other smaller local TV stations. [20] Mushy Callahan's success has continued through 2018 with their release of the album "Revelations," [21] which highlights the singles "Deep Meadow" and "End of my Rope". The album has widely been well received by independent music reviews. [22] [23] [24]

Finger Eleven is a Canadian rock band from Burlington, Ontario, formed in 1990. They have released seven studio albums, with their album The Greyest of Blue Skies bringing them into the mainstream. Their 2003 self-titled album achieved Gold status in the United States and Platinum in Canada, largely from the success of the single "One Thing", which marked the band's first placing on the US Hot 100 Chart at number 16. Their 2007 album, Them vs. You vs. Me launched the single "Paralyzer", which went on to top the Canadian Hot 100 and both US rock charts, as well as reaching No. 6 on the US Hot 100 and No. 12 on the Australian Singles Chart. Edgefest was an annual outdoor rock festival in Canada. It was founded by staff members of Toronto radio station CFNY-FM. From 1987 to 2015, the festival was held every year in the summer. The festival was most frequently held on Canada Day at Molson Park in Barrie, Ontario or a venue in Toronto. The festival featured predominantly Canadian rock bands. During its 29-year operation, the festival featured more than 300 performers. As of 2015, it was the longest running rock festival in Canada.

Dave "Bookie" Bookman was a Canadian radio personality, most noted for his long career in the Toronto radio market. Associated primarily with CFNY-FM and later with CIND-FM, he was known as a passionate promoter of indie music and as an excellent interviewer with a gift for getting even famously "difficult" or reclusive musicians, such as David Byrne, Jeff Tweedy and Elvis Costello, to open up more than usual in interviews.

Arkells is a Canadian rock band, formed in Hamilton, Ontario. In 2006, they signed with Dine Alone Records, and have since signed with Universal Records Canada and Last Gang Records. They are managed by Last Gang Management. They have released six albums, two EPs and a number of singles that have charted in Canada. The band has won multiple Juno Awards, including one for their album High Noon in 2015. The band headlined the 108th Grey Cup halftime show in Hamilton, Ontario on December 12, 2021.
