The National Route 82 (N82) is a primary national route that forms part of the Philippine Highway network. It connects the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu. [1] It is a short primary road, spanning 5 km (3.1 mi). It is also home to the first bridge connecting the island of Cebu and Mactan, the Mactan-Mandaue bridge (officially known as Sergio Osmeña bridge).

Lapulapu or Lapu-Lapu, whose name was first recorded as Çilapulapu, was a datu of Mactan in the Visayas. Modern Philippine society regards him as the first Filipino hero because of his resistance to imperial Spanish colonization. He is best known for the Battle of Mactan that happened at dawn on April 27, 1521, where he and his warriors defeated the forces of Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan and his native allies Rajah Humabon and Datu Zula. Magellan's death ended his voyage of circumnavigation and delayed the Spanish occupation of the islands by over forty years until the expedition of Miguel López de Legazpi in 1564. Legazpi continued the expeditions of Magellan, leading to the colonization of the Philippines for 333 years. Monuments of Lapulapu have been built all over the Philippines to honor Lapulapu's bravery against the Spaniards. The Philippine National Police and the Bureau of Fire Protection use his image as part of their official seals.

Mactan Island in the Philippines

Mactan is a densely populated island located a few kilometres from Cebu Island in the Philippines. The island is part of Cebu Province and it is divided into Lapu-Lapu City and the municipality of Cordova. The island is separated from Cebu by the Mactan Channel which is presently crossed by two bridges: the Mactan–Mandaue Bridge and the Marcelo Fernan Bridge, both of which connect Mandaue on the Cebu mainland and Lapu-Lapu on Mactan Island. A third bridge, the Cebu–Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), will connect the island, through Cordova, to Cebu City. The island covers some 65 square kilometres (25 sq mi) and is home to some 470,000 people, making it the nation's most densely populated island. Along with Olango Island Group, the isles are administered as 1 city and a municipality covering 75.25 square kilometres (29.05 sq mi).

Cordova, officially the Municipality of Cordova, is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 59,712 people. 

Marcelo Fernan Bridge

Marcelo Fernan Bridge is an extradosed cable-stayed bridge located in Metro Cebu in the Philippines. It spans across Mactan Channel connecting Mandaue City to Lapu-Lapu City in Mactan Island. It is currently the longest cable-stayed bridge in the Philippines Before it was named the Marcelo Fernan Bridge, it was called the Consolacion Bridge, named after the Municipality of Consolacion, which is 1.6 miles (2.6 km) from the north end of the bridge.

Metropolitan Cebu, or simply Metro Cebu,, is the main urban center of the province of Cebu in the Philippines. Metro Cebu is located along the central eastern portion of the island including the nearby island of Mactan. It accounts for 20 percent of the land area and 61.5 percent of the population of the entire island of Cebu.

Mactan–Mandaue Bridge

The Mactan–Mandaue Bridge, officially the Sergio Osmeña Bridge, is a truss bridge that connects the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu in Metro Cebu, Philippines. It is one of two bridges that spans across the Mactan Channel, the other being the Marcelo Fernan Bridge, and connects the islands of Cebu and Mactan.

Cebu Bus Rapid Transit System

The Cebu Bus Rapid Transit System is a planned mass transit system for Cebu City located within the greater Cebu Metropolitan Area. It is expected to become the first operational bus rapid transit project in the Philippines. Only one line has been planned in detail so far, but scheme developers note the potential to develop a larger network comprising the adjacent cities Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue and Talisay. Leadership in both Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue have shown interest in the network. This will be constructed at the end or last quarter of 2017 and the first route could be operational by the end of 2019.

Mactan Channel

The Mactan Channel also known as Opon Channel is the strait between main island of Cebu and the smaller Mactan Island. The body of water is located within Metro Cebu separating Lapu-Lapu City on Mactan Island from Mandaue City and Cebu City in mainland Cebu. It is one of the three channels that connect the Cebu Strait to the Camotes Sea — the other two being Olango Channel and Hilutangan Channel.

Fil-Asian Airways, formerly Mid-Sea Express, was a Cebu-based airline with AOC issued by CAAP. It was formed in 2011 and ceased operating in 2014. Mid-Sea Express started as air charter operator and non-scheduled air taxi headquartered at Mactan–Cebu International Airport in Lapu-Lapu City in Central Visayas, in the Philippines. As Fil-Asian Airways, its slogan was "The Asian experience". The airline was operated from major airports such as Mactan–Cebu International Airport in Cebu, Francisco Bangoy International Airport in Davao City and Zamboanga International Airport.

Mactan–Cebu International Airport International airport in the Philippines

Mactan–Cebu International Airport is the second busiest international airport in the Philippines. It is located in the city of Lapu-Lapu on Mactan Island, a part of Metro Cebu and serves the Central Visayas region. The airport is managed by the Mactan–Cebu International Airport Authority and serves as a hub for Cebu Pacific, Pan Pacific Airlines, and Royal Air Charter Service.

Transportation within Cebu City is mainly land-based with most parts of the city accessible by road. There is no existing mass transit but there is an existing proposal for a Cebu Bus Rapid Transit System and Cebu Light Rail Transit System.

Mactan Shrine

Mactan Shrine, also known as Liberty Shrine, is a memorial park on the island of Mactan in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, Philippines. It host two monuments namely the Magellan Monument, which is dedicated to Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan and the Lapu Lapu Monument, a bronze statue which commemorates Lapu Lapu, a native leader who defeated Spanish soldiers led by Magellan in the 1521 Battle of Mactan.
