The New Austrian tunneling method (NATM), also known as the sequential excavation method (SEM) or sprayed concrete lining method (SCL), is a method of modern tunnel design and construction. This technique first gained attention in the 1960s based on the work of Ladislaus von Rabcewicz, Leopold Müller, and Franz Pacher between 1957 and 1965 in Austria. The name NATM was intended to distinguish it from the old Austrian tunnelling approach. The fundamental difference between this new method of tunneling, as opposed to earlier methods, comes from the economic advantages made available by taking advantage of the inherent geological strength available in the surrounding rock mass to stabilize the tunnel.

La Cisterna is a station on the Santiago Metro in Santiago, Chile. It is a transfer station between the Line 2 and the Line 4A, and consists of two stations, one built in an open trench and the other partially mined, which are joined by pedestrian tunnels. The Line 2 station was opened on 22 December 2004 as part of a 2.2 km (1.4 mi) southward extension of Line 2 from Lo Ovalle metro station. The Line 4A station was opened on 16 August 2006 as part of the inaugural section of the line between Vicuña Mackenna and La Cisterna. It is named for La Cisterna, the district where the station is located and whose town hall is close to it.

ADECO-RS was proposed by Pietro Lunardi in the 1980s on the basis of long in-depth research into the stress-strain behavior of more than 1,000 km of tunnel and more than 9,000 faces. In the past few decades, ADECO-RS has been widely used in Italian railway, highway and large underground construction projects and has been incorporated into Italian tunnel design and construction specifications.
