Magas is the capital town of Ingushetia, Russia. It was founded in 1995 and replaced Nazran as the capital of the republic in 2002. Due to this distinction, Magas is the smallest capital of a federal subject in Russia. In 2019, it had a population of 8,771 inhabitants, up from 5,841 in 2010 and 272 in 2002.
Nazran is the largest city in Ingushetia, Russia. It served as the republic's capital from 1991 to 2000, until it was replaced by Magas, which was built for this purpose. It is the most populous city in the republic: 122,350 (2021 Census); 93,335 (2010 Census); 125,066 (2002 Census); 18,246 (1989 Census).

Ali Musaevich Taziev, also known as Akhmed Yevloev, Magomet Yevloyev, and Emir Magas; born 19 August 1974) is the former leader of both the Ingushetia-based Ingush Jamaat and as the military wing of the Caucasus Emirate. On 30 September 2006, Taziev was appointed to the post of commander of the Caucasian Front by the orders of Dokka Umarov. In July 2007, one year after Shamil Basayev’s death, Taziev became his official successor as the most high-ranking military commander in the rebel forces. He is believed to be personally responsible for the death of several local high-ranking security officials.
Murat Magometovich Zyazikov is a Russian politician who was the second president of the southern Russian republic of Ingushetia. He was born in what is now Kyrgyzstan. Zyazikov was a controversial politician in Ingushetia.

Magomed Khamitovich Khashiev, also known as Sokhib and Khattab, was the Ingush Emir of the Sunzhensky District and a militant in the Russian federal subjects of Ingushetia and Chechnya. He was connected with dozens of terrorist acts, including an attempt on the life of the President of Ingushetia, Murat Zyazikov. He was also one of the masterminds behind the Beslan school attack in September 2004.
The Caucasian Front, also known as Caucasus Front or the Caucasian Mujahideen, established in May 2005 as an Islamic structural unit of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria's armed forces by the decree of the fourth president of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, Abdul-Halim Sadulayev. In September 2006, Ali Taziev was appointed as the emir and commander-in-chief of the Caucasian Front by Dokka Umarov. The group eventually reorganized as "Vilayat Nokhchicho" in 2007 and became a part of the Caucasus Emirate.
The Nazran raid was a large-scale raid carried out in the Republic of Ingushetia, Russia on the night of June 21–22, 2004, by a group of Chechen militants led by Chechen commanders Shamil Basayev and Dokku Umarov. Basayev's main goal, besides capturing a large cache of weapons, was a show of strength. The attack by Chechen fighters on the Ingush city of Nazran is associated with the bad attitude of the Ingush authorities towards Chechen refugees.

Yunus-bek Bamatgireyevich Yevkurov is a Russian colonel general and politician. For over 10 years he was the head of the southern Russian republic of Ingushetia, appointed by President Dmitry Medvedev on 30 October 2008. The following day, the People's Assembly of the Republic of Ingushetia, the republic's regional parliament, voted in favor of Yevkurov's appointment, making him the third Head of Ingushetia. He is a career soldier, paratrooper, and Hero of the Russian Federation who was involved in numerous conflicts where Russia played a key role, including Kosovo (1999) and Chechnya. On 22 June 2009, Yevkurov was seriously injured following a car-bomb attack on his motorcade in the city of Nazran.

The Insurgency in Ingushetia began in 2007 as an escalation of an insurgency in Ingushetia connected to the separatist conflict in Chechnya. The conflict has been described as a civil war by local human rights activists and opposition politicians; others have referred to it as an uprising. By mid-2009 Ingushetia had surpassed Chechnya as the most violent of the North Caucasus republics. However, by 2015 the insurgency in the Republic had greatly weakened, and the casualty toll declined substantially in the intervening years.
The 2009 Nazran bombing occurred on 17 August 2009, in Nazran, the largest city of the Republic of Ingushetia in the Russian Federation. A suicide car bomber attacked police headquarters, and at least 25 people were killed and 164 injured. It was the most serious terrorist attack in Ingushetia in the early 21st century, where there had been social and political unrest related to independence movements.
Nazranovsky District is an administrative and municipal district (raion), one of the four in the Republic of Ingushetia, Russia. It is located in the central and western parts of the republic. The area of the district is 430.4 square kilometers (166.2 sq mi). Its administrative center is the town of Nazran. As of the 2010 Census, the total population of the district was 87,851.
Magas Airport, also known as Magas Oskanov Airport or Sleptsovskaya Airport is an airport in the Republic of Ingushetia near Sunzha, serving the capital city of Magas and the largest regional city of Nazran. The name Magas comes from the medieval capital of Alania. The name is translated from Ingush as a Sun City. Prior to 1992, Magas Airport was a Soviet military air base. It is sometimes referred to as Magas Oskanov Airport, in honour of Soviet General and MiG-29 pilot Sulom-Bek Oskanov.

The 2018-2019 protests in Ingushetia are thousands of people, initially unauthorized round-the-clock protest in Magas against the Agreement on Securing the Border Between Regions, signed by the head of Ingushetia Yunus-Bek Yevkurov and the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov on September 26, 2018, as well as its ratification by the deputies of the People's Assembly of the Republic of Ingushetia. The protest began on October 4, 2018 and was declared indefinite. On the fifth day, the rally was sanctioned by the authorities until October 15. The break of the round-the-clock protest lasted from 18 to 31 October 2018. The next rally took place on November 27, 2018, on the day of the consideration by the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation of the request of the head of the Republic of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, on the compliance of the Constitution of the Russian Federation with the Agreement on the Establishment of the Administrative Boundary between Ingushetia and Chechnya. After a four-month break on March 26, 2019, the rally in Magas was resumed and declared indefinite.
